On this day Oct 9, 1956, the unthinkable happened.....a careless driver veered off the highway at the mouth of Coon's Crossing Rd, I was with Stinky (Donald) on the Coon side of the road where he had been thrown from the impact, I am certain he died instantly. I finally went and found Barb (on the other side of highway) who was with Micky, also mortally injured. This has haunted me every day of my life, recently a young man who was there wrote and told me his memories of that day, thank you Ron, it is the only peace I have felt about that day as all newspaper reports were so very wrong. I know they are at Peace now and that they have Mom with them. RIP my little ones ?

I can not imagine. You and Barb have carried a memory that is unthinkable. I remember mom holding me on her lap and crying so hard when she told me. My good memory was running around your farm yard playing chase with "the boys". Love to you and Barb?

We did a lot of playing chase with "the boys" Mom was always so fond of Della, we sure had good Mom's....just needed to talk about it for once, and hopefully put it to rest. I wonder what they would be like today? Love you right back ?

I understand, it can only stay tucked away for so long and then it appears, to be dealt with and maybe even bring peace. I always tried to find a reason why when mom was killed, not so far from your dreadful day. Still no reason is good enough.

I wish you could have been spared that, no child should see that, I understand Mr Clark was driving the bus that day. My father made the decision to bring Mom home (I am sure not her choice) and Micky was left to die alone at the Mt Clinic...as a sister, a mother, and just a human being I still find that so hard to deal with.....I guess I am not a very good, forgiving person. I do wish all the children on the bus had been spared, I honestly believe thankfully they were unable to see the worst of it!

So you make me cry all over again ..and again..and again..they were my little buddies.
Stinky died right away...Micky lingered a few hours.. I am still haunted when I hear the gravel sound the car made when it came off the main highway and children playing in the road. The boys were NOT in the road..Sometimes I wonder what happened to the little girl that was with them that got a good bruising and moved away . She was never mentioned...b

Grace Titus My father's Mother and 8 year old sister (my aunt) died in the flu epidemic in 1920 and still have no headstones. No parent or sibling should have to bury a child. It's heartbreaking even to bury a parent or grandparent, but unbearable to lose a child!

Grace from my experience of being in combat, it's better to talk about the horrible things that you have seen than to keep them in. Some people that haven't been there won't agree but I don't agree with them. It's not good to keep it to yourself. Thank you, I understand.

I agree 100%, we were not to ever even speak of the boys again, think that wasn't hard, And, I did see horrible things that day, worse than people have any idea of. After Mom died we found a little cardboard box, well aged. None of us knew it existed, inside were their cowboy boot banks, little knives and flashlights, pictures, and paperwork. I now keep it safe, as will my daughter when I am gone. The total worth of both of their lives....$5000. When my younger brother was in his late 20's he asked if he could ask me something, Sure, says I....."what happened to our brothers?" That is how bad it was, and we were glad for Mom, had Ernest know about her secret box he would have MADE her destroy it......sorry for going on. When you have time tell me about your Rhode Island roots.....and thank you for listening............g
