Brothers, 6. 8. Killed By Auto.
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. AP--Two brothers, running hand in hand to catch a school bus, were injured fatally Tuesday when they were struck by an auto driven by a school teacher near this western Pennsylvania town on the edge of the New York State border.
The victims were Donald Maxson, 8, and his brother Michael, 6, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Maxson of Ceres. NY.
The boys died in an Olean, NY hospital within five hours after they were struck.
State police identified the teacher as Mrs. Edna C. Rupert of Shinglehouse. They said witnesses gave this version:
The brothers were waiting for a school bus approaching from the opposite direction of Mrs. Rupert's car. The boys waited until two autos preceding the bus passed. Then, without looking up. they darted into the path of Mrs. Rupert's vehicle.
Coroner William F. MacDuffie of Olean issued verdicts of accidental death. He took jurisdiction because the boys died in New York State. The accident occurred in McKean County, Pa.
