On this day Oct 9, 1956, the unthinkable happened.....a careless driver veered off the highway at the mouth of Coon's Crossing Rd, I was with Stinky (Donald) on the Coon side of the road where he had been thrown from the impact, I am certain he died instantly. I finally went and found Barb (on the other side of highway) who was with Micky, also mortally injured. This has haunted me every day of my life, recently a young man who was there wrote and told me his memories of that day, thank you Ron, it is the only peace I have felt about that day as all newspaper reports were so very wrong. I know they are at Peace now and that they have Mom with them. RIP my little ones ?

I can not imagine. You and Barb have carried a memory that is unthinkable. I remember mom holding me on her lap and crying so hard when she told me. My good memory was running around your farm yard playing chase with "the boys". Love to you and Barb?

We did a lot of playing chase with "the boys" Mom was always so fond of Della, we sure had good Mom's....just needed to talk about it for once, and hopefully put it to rest. I wonder what they would be like today? Love you right back ?

I wish you could have been spared that, no child should see that, I understand Mr Clark was driving the bus that day. My father made the decision to bring Mom home (I am sure not her choice) and Micky was left to die alone at the Mt Clinic...as a sister, a mother, and just a human being I still find that so hard to deal with.....I guess I am not a very good, forgiving person. I do wish all the children on the bus had been spared, I honestly believe thankfully they were unable to see the worst of it!

Stinky died right away...Micky lingered a few hours.. I am still haunted when I hear the gravel sound the car made when it came off the main highway and children playing in the road. The boys were NOT in the road..Sometimes I wonder what happened to the little girl that was with them that got a good bruising and moved away . She was never mentioned...b

Grace Titus My father's Mother and 8 year old sister (my aunt) died in the flu epidemic in 1920 and still have no headstones. No parent or sibling should have to bury a child. It's heartbreaking even to bury a parent or grandparent, but unbearable to lose a child!

Grace from my experience of being in combat, it's better to talk about the horrible things that you have seen than to keep them in. Some people that haven't been there won't agree but I don't agree with them. It's not good to keep it to yourself. Thank you, I understand.

I agree 100%, we were not to ever even speak of the boys again, think that wasn't hard, And, I did see horrible things that day, worse than people have any idea of. After Mom died we found a little cardboard box, well aged. None of us knew it existed, inside were their cowboy boot banks, little knives and flashlights, pictures, and paperwork. I now keep it safe, as will my daughter when I am gone. The total worth of both of their lives....$5000. When my younger brother was in his late 20's he asked if he could ask me something, Sure, says I....."what happened to our brothers?" That is how bad it was, and we were glad for Mom, had Ernest know about her secret box he would have MADE her destroy it......sorry for going on. When you have time tell me about your Rhode Island roots.....and thank you for listening............g

FYI, I’m not putting spin with my comments. I’m sharing information from my research, in case anyone else wants to know or would be interested. I’m not spinning anything.
And FYI, I also had a similar experience, watching his little body tumble beneath the undercarriage of the car in front of me. It’s a horror that never leaves you.

I wanted to find an article about it before responding, but I haven’t been able to. My daughter was 2, sitting in the front seat (as we used to do back then). We were returning to the wake of my wife’s aunt Lenore Dunn Mosch, when a little boy hesitated with his siblings, to cross the road. They stayed, he darted and was run over by the car in front of us, right in front of his siblings and the rest of the family, who were watching from their porch. I can still see his small body churning beneath the undercarriage.
I don’t know how I could possibly bear it, had that been my child or someone close to me. It’s bad enough when it happens to friends. I can’t begin to feel your pain, that is certainly not what I meant. I’m so sorry, Grace, even after all these years. I did research it quite a bit, but only for my Tree. I had no intention of sharing something that sensitive to anyone in the group, but I have taken notice of your concern.
Be safe and well.

Again, you have messed up my Maxson Tree now, I am so frustrated at going to find info on my Family Trees to find you have messed them up AGAIN !!!!! Those of us who have lived, done MUCH research, and have access to family records VERY, VERY much resent pulling up our Trees to find them altered, and some of our family info gone.........STAY AWAY from my trees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not changed your trees. I cannot change your trees.
Why do you think I have?
Instead of expressing ignorant indignation, why don’t you tell me what’s going on?
I thought I corrected info from your earlier complaint, in which you also gave no corrective info.
BTW, I too do a lot of research, also at PCHS, various courthouses and records centers. And I take what I can discern also from FB.
You should know that I cannot edit your trees. And if you’re offended by any errors in my trees about your family, info only in my trees, then how about offering some corrections, because I’m not going away. I live for this stuff.

I wish you could have been spared that, no child should see that, I understand Mr Clark was driving the bus that day. My father made the decision to bring Mom home (I am sure not her choice) and Micky was left to die alone at the Mt Clinic...as a sister, a mother, and just a human being I still find that so hard to deal with.....I guess I am not a very good, forgiving person. I do wish all the children on the bus had been spared, I honestly believe thankfully they were unable to see the worst of it!

Brothers, 6. 8. Killed By Auto.
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. AP--Two brothers, running hand in hand to catch a school bus, were injured fatally Tuesday when they were struck by an auto driven by a school teacher near this western Pennsylvania town on the edge of the New York State border.
The victims were Donald Maxson, 8, and his brother Michael, 6, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Maxson of Ceres. NY.
The boys died in an Olean, NY hospital within five hours after they were struck.
State police identified the teacher as Mrs. Edna C. Rupert of Shinglehouse. They said witnesses gave this version:
The brothers were waiting for a school bus approaching from the opposite direction of Mrs. Rupert's car. The boys waited until two autos preceding the bus passed. Then, without looking up. they darted into the path of Mrs. Rupert's vehicle.
Coroner William F. MacDuffie of Olean issued verdicts of accidental death. He took jurisdiction because the boys died in New York State. The accident occurred in McKean County, Pa.
