Labelled 'C.L.S.C.' in a post about 3 years ago: C.L.S.C., apparently a reading society. My people assignments (Feel free to correct incorrect or missing info):
- Fanny 'Almira' Perkins (never married), wrong, probably her mother:
- Almira Sophia Baker Perkins
- Mary Blackman (never married?),
- Mary Louise Berfield Larrabee,
- Addie Berfield,
- Mary White,
- Elsie (Ashley) Covey
Searched high and wide, finally found this: C. L. S, C. - The Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, whose grand rallying point is at Lake Chautauqua, Western New York. It is an organization which offers to every English-speaking person, irrespective of circumstances, the first step toward a liberal education. A society for the promotion of study at home and has a regular four years' course carefully prepared. During the four years one obtains a knowledge of Greek History ... books and subscription to the "Chatauquan” cost from six to seven dollars per year. Two or more persons may use one set of books and thus save expense. It is better for each member to have a copy of the "Chautauquan”. The above cost of books, together with the annual membership fee of fifty cents, is the whole expense.

Having had many inquiries in regard to I this course of reading, the INDEPENDENT has kindly given me permission to talk about it through the paper for the benefit of its many readers.
The initial letters, C. L. S, C. are for Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, whose grand rallying point is at Lake Chautauqua, Western New York. It is an organization which offers to every English-speaking person, irrespective of circumstances, the first step toward a liberal education. A society for the promotion of study at home, and has a regular four years course carefully prepared. During the four vears one obtains a knowledge of Greek History and Literature, Roman History and Literature, English History and Literature, American History and Literature. "The four years’ course of study embraces a broad view of History, Literature, Art, Science, Man and Life.”

Outline History of Greece.
Preparatory Greek Course in English.
College Greek Course in English.
Character of Jesus.
Chemistry, Zoology and the readings of the "Chautauquan.”
