• Four Finalists Named In Americans Abroad Program
A tea for applicants in the Americans Abroad program was held recently in the Coudersport Area High School homemaking rooms under the sponsorship of the Americans Abroad committee of the local American Field Service Chapter.
Four of the students who had applied for the opportunity to go abroad in the Foreign Exchange Student program were chosen as finalists and their papers will be sent this week to New York Headquarters where the final selection will be made.
They are
Pat Kenealy, Karen Gooch, Mary Hopkins and Mary Marzo.
Mrs. Harold Sonnekalb, chairman of committee charged with making the selection, spoke for the committee when she said Thursday, "We have been just delighted with the girls who applied. In talking with them and visiting in their homes. we found all the girls were wonderful and it was difficult arrive at a choice. We were. impressed verso with all the girls and we can be proud to send them any place."
She added that 19 pages of information were required for each applicant.
In applying, the students were permitted to make a first and second choice for either the two-month summer program or for the school year involving seven or eight months. Cost of the first to local chapter would be $600 and the second, $650.
Placement from the New York office will be announced any time between February through mid-May for the summer program, and from February through the end of July for those who wish to attend school abroad.

Mrs. Alex Strang, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. William Jackson were in Coudersport one day last week on their way to the funeral of her brother-in-law, M. Walter Woolf. Mr. and Mrs. Arlton Grover and Dewert Grover were also in Ithaca for the funeral.
Engaged
Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Baxter announce the engagement of their daughter, Leslie Ann, to Frank Louis Simmons of New York City.
Final Date, For Enrolling In Wheat Stabilization Program Engaged Engaged Miss Leslie Ann Baxter December 1, 1961, is the final date for the Potter County ASCS office to accept applications for participation in the 1962 wheat stabilization program.
Farmers who were sent a wheat allotment in August or any farmers entire harvested wheat in 159, 1960 or 1961, and not planted their entire aches for harvest for 1962 may enroll in the 1962 program. Any person interested in enrolling or in learning more about the program contact the local Agricultural Stabilization and Conservashould, tion Service as soon as possible. A partial payment is advanced at the time of enrollment if the producer so desires. State Convention Report At WCTU Institute All local societies are urged to send representatives to the Potter County WCTU Fall Institute Friday, at the Genesee Methodist Church. A report of the State Convention will be given.
Sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with a tureen luncheon served at noon. Members are asked to bring a tureen and table service. Beverage and rolls will be furnished.
