Soldier Dies In Washington; In Army Since January, 1968
Funeral services were held yesterday for Barry Bennett, 24, of Shinglehouse who died of asphyxiation from a faulty gas heater in a hotel in Tacoma, Wash.
The tragedy occurred Nov. 9 while Bennett was on pass from the U. S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Mr. Bennett was born April: 2, 1945, at Buffalo, N.Y., a son of Walter and Elizabeth Kemp Bennett. In 1968, he was married to the former Miss Patricia Rossman of Coudersport, who survives.
Mr. Bennett had been in the Army since Jan. 31, 1968. Before that he had served four years and six months in the U.S. Navy.
Besides his wife and parents of Shinglehouse he is survived by
a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Marilyn) Seal of Levittown, Pa.;
a brother, Brian, at home;
his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Kemp of Shinglehouse,
and a niece and nephew.
Friends called Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Sunday and Monday, and the funeral was held there Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Officiating were the Rev. Robert Cassler, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Millport and Chrystal; the Rev. Glenn Reed, pastor of House Abion Community Church, and the Rev. M. H. Vincent, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincolnville.
Burial followed in the Chrystal emetery with graveside military serves conducted by the American Legion Post 530 of Shinglehouse..
