· I thought you might find this interesting. This isn’t the original, I retyped it word for word for the safety newsletter at work. I’m sure many of you remember Wayne Torrey. Lewis was his father

___________
at the control station of the Electro Geometer Companhy on the Estes farm, a couple miles south of Ellisburg on theAndrews Settlement road, whereby Lewis E. Torrey, 32, of Milport and Louis F. Schlosser of East Sharon, lost their lives and Ernest Carpenter, 35, of Roulette is in a serious condidiotn in the Port Allegany hospital.
Torrey was endeavoring to open a drip cock on one of the gas lines, where moisture is drained from the lines, using steam to thaw them out.
The explosion threw Torrey 50 feet.
Carpenter, a truck driver for the Allegany Gas Company, had just arrived with a load of wood alcohol; he was evidently farther away from the line when it broke than the others. He telephoned for help.
Torrey, an employee of the Electro Geometer concern, one of the drillers of big deep gassers in the area, leaves a wife and two children, as well as his parents, Mr & Mrs F.W. Torrey of Sharon Center; 3 sisters, Mrs Al Schaoe, Mrs Mahlon Wilson and Miss Alleyne Torrey.
The Estes well was drilled 1.5 years ago, producing 15,000,000 cubic feet.
Torrey suffered a broken neck in the blast or the fall and is believed to have met instant death.
Schlosser was taken unconscious to Jones Memorial hospital in Wellsville, where he died at 2:30 o'clock on Tursday morning. His head was crushed between the eyes, his nose broken, and his face fearfully lacerated. Had he lived, he would have been blind.
