Shirley A. Hepker
loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
OLEAN -- Shirley A. Hepker, of 500 E. Spring St. and formerly of Happy Hollow Road, Olean, passed away Friday (Jan. 4, 2013) in the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born March 30, 1928, in Cooperstown, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Virginia Ellsworth Dunckel. On Nov. 23, 1946, in Olean, she married William F. "Bill" Hepker, who passed away Feb. 12, 2007.
Shirley was a graduate of Portville Central School, class of 1946, and was employed at Olean Wholesale for five years.
She was a member of the former St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Weston's Mills Fire Department and a member and past chaplain of the Cootiette Club.
She loved playing cards and bingo with her friends at the Manor. Shirley also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making many beautiful dolls for her grandchildren. When her grandchildren called, she loved to say, "Hello".
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Sharon) Hepker of Hinsdale and Daniel (Cindy) Hepker of Bastrop, Texas; one daughter, Sue (Thomas) Jordan of Bolivar; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special granddaughter, Kim Jordan, who moved back from New York City to take care of her "Grammy".
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Rufus Dunckel, in 1989; and her step-mother, Frances Dunckel.
Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
