Receives Purple Heart Award
Mrs. Danfcrth Matteson, Sr., oi Galeton, received the Purple Heart award, Monday, her son, P. F. C. Dennis R. Goodwin having given his life to his country. His death occurred in a hospital in Belgium following serious wounds received in action.
Stationed in North Africa
Walter L Lehman, Jr., 105 Mill Street, Coudersport, has recently been promoted to the grade of Private First Class. P. F. C. Lehman is a member of the worldwide Army Airways Communications System which operates and maintains aeronautical radio communications all over the world. He is stationed somewhere in North Africa where, as an AACS Radio Maintenance Technician, he helps to keep airways radio equipment "on the air" twenty-four hours, day in and day out.
George P. Dubots Promoted
Official information comes from Camp Blanding, Fla., to the Enterprise that George P. Dubots, Coudersport, has been promoted from private first class to corporal. Cpl. Dubots is the son of Mrs. George Dubots.
Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.
Cpl. Earl B. Seeley, son of Mr and Mrs. Earl B Seeley of Coudersport, has been transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.
Gives His Parents Surprise
Sgt. Ronald E. Abbott gave his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Abbott, a very pleasant surprise, Friday night when he walked in on them without notice. "Bud" has a 15-day furlough and is looking fine. He is stationed at Camp Mackall, N. C.
Grasshoppers Appear
Lawrence Baker, North Main Street, brought to this office, Tuesday of all things a dozen real live grasshoppers. Nature surely played a mean trick on these half-inch Insects to turn them loose at this season of the year.
Death of Mrs. Reed
After an illness of about one month of heart trouble, May Sarah Reed passed away Saturday, March 3, 1945, at the Cecile Troutman home at Roulette.
Mrs. Reed was born at Sartwell Creek, March 4, 1874, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Lehman. She was married to Francis Reed December 18, 1890, at Burtvllle, and for many years the family resided on a farm near Roulette.
- Four children survive. They are: Mabel B. Reed and Mrs. Cecile May Troutman, Roulette; Lawrence E. Reed, Wilson, N. Y.; Mrs. Lucy A. Pearson, Oil City, Pa. Also surviving are a brother and a sister: George F. Lehman, Hammondsport, N. Y., and Mrs. Luella Cornell, Port Allegany.
Funeral service was held from the Roulette home Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Gordon Loomls officiating and interment was in Lyman Cemetery.
- Pallbearers were: Dale Pomeroy, Paul Seymour, T. Cavanaugh, Major Welmer, Benno Scheibner and Emery Smith.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were:
Mrs. Luella Cornell, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fessenden, Niles Fessenden, Chris Fessenden, Mrs. Bertha Helmer, Port Allegany;
Mr. and Mrs. George Lehman, Hammondsport, N. Y.;

Jacob Edwin Nelson
Jacob Edwin Nelson, a resident of Coudersport since 1910, died from heart trouble Saturday, March 3, 1945. He had been in poor health since July.
Mr. Nelson was born at Dear-field, Pa., June 16, 1863, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson. He married Loretta M. Harrison at Whitesville, N. Y., September 20, 1894. For a time the family resided In Sunderlinville before locating here.
Mr. Nelson's widow and a son, Otto B. Nelson, survive. Living also are two sisters, Mrs. Dora Learn, Erie, Pa., and Mrs. Harry Dubar, Niagara Falls, N. Y.
Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church.
The funeral was held from the home Tuesday and burial was In Parker Hill Cemetery at Sunderlinville. The Rev. Gordon Loomls officiated.

Mrs. Bertha Olivia Armstrong passed away at the Port Allegany Hospital Monday, March 5, 1945, after a period of 111 health for some seven years. Deceased was ...
