Milwaukee, Wis.
Enoch T. Kanaskie, 60, of 3178 South Forty-second Street, Milwaukee. Wis., a native of Shamokin, died Tuesday in St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee, after being stricken ill last Saturday.
Mr. Kanaskie was born in Shamokin, the son of Mrs. Mary Kanaskie, Milwaukee. He moved to Milwaukee in 1946, after graduating from Ithaca, N.Y. College.
Mr. Kanaskie was chairman of the Don Bosco High School fine arts department and music director at the school since 1951. He was the first layman to be named "Teacher of the Year" by the Milwaukee Catholic Arch diocese in 1964.
Mr. Kanaskie was selected by School Musicians Magazine in 1964 as one of 10 outstanding music directors in the nation. He also was named to the White House Conference for children and youth.
Founder and past president of the Milwaukee Archdiocese Choral Directors' Association, Mr. Kanaskie was a contributor to National Catholic Bandmaster's Newsletter. He was a member of the North American Band Directors' co-ordinating committee and secretary-treasurer of the National Catholic Bandmasters' Association.
In addition, Mr. Kanaskie was a member of the All-American Band and Drum and Bugle Corps Association and Sons of Neptune.
Survivors, in addition to the mother, include the widow, the former Barbara Judziewicz; and three daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara) Link. Mrs. Charles (Constance) Ignatowski, and Mrs. Du Wayne (Patricia) Wanasek, all of Milwaukee.
