Mother Charged With Stealing Drugs From Adelphoi Village
By Kimberley Hoak, Staff Reporter Aug 12, 2009
The mother of a Coudersport teenager, who was charged with numerous drug related offenses in the reported drug overdose of a young Coudersport man, is herself facing charges for allegedly stealing “prescription medication (Percocet) from Adelphoi Village.”
Charges were filed against Gayla Yentzer, 50, of Coudersport, last Friday “which include theft by unlawful taking or disposition (and) prohibited acts from the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act,” reported Coudersport-based State Police.
According to State Police, between January 18 - June 24 “Gayla Yentzer “took possession of a prescription medication (Percocet) from Adelphoi Village. Yentzer then left Adelphoi Village with the prescription medication.”
In the affidavit of probable cause filed in Gayla Yentzer’s case, police allege she admitted taking the prescription bottle containing Percocet from Adelphoi Village.
According to police, the prescription for Percocet had been written for a resident of Adelphoi Village “for having his wisdom teeth pulled.”
Police reported when the resident no longer needed the remainder of the medication, “it was locked up until it was time for destruction.” According to police, “Yentzer related that when it came time to destroy the pills she pocketed the prescription bottle with the Percocet pills. Yentzer related that she was experiencing a terrible migraine which contributed to her taking the Percocets. Yentzer related that she then put the prescription bottle with remaining pills in her medicine cabinet at home and forgot about them.”
Police reported through their investigation that 15 Percocet pills had initially been prescribed to the resident of Adelphoi Village who had his teeth pulled, and there were six and one-half pills remaining after he used what he needed.
Police reported there was a “medication destruction/disposition form” signed by Yentzer and another employee of Adelphoi Village for the six and one-half Percocet pills.
In late June, Gayla Yentzer’s son, Cody Yentzer, 19, also of Coudersport, was charged by Coudersport Borough Police with numerous drug charges, including giving false reports to law enforcement, and recklessly endangering another person for allegedly giving drugs to another individual which resulted in a reported “drug overdose” to Ross Lent of Coudersport.
According to Borough Police, on June 20 Sweden Township Police Department answered a call “concerning an overdose of drugs at the Lent Farm, Sweden Township.” Through the investigation conducted by Coudersport Borough Police and Sweden Township Police, “it was determined that the drug which caused the overdose were obtained in the Coudersport Borough. The drugs in question were both Methadone and Oxycodone, both Schedule 2 drugs.”
Borough Police reported in their affidavit of probable cause, “The pills in question were obtained at 468 Center Park, Coudersport Borough by Ross Lent from Cody John Yentzer on 19, June 2009. The prescription for the Oxycodone belonged to one Ryan Grist, who was at the Adelphoi Village, which Cody’s mother Gayla Yentzer work as a nurse.”
Police reported both Lent and “a passenger” were interviewed about the incident and “both gave written statements to the fact that they got the pills from Cody John Yentzer. The empty prescription bottle was found in the possession of the passenger.’
According to police Yentzer was interviewed about the incident and “gave false statements” to both Coudersport Borough Police and Sweden Township Police officers “implicating that Ross Lend had stole the pills, then after talking to his attorney he gave a taped statement confirming the other statements which we had to the fact that he had given the pills to the two subjects, and that he had acquired the pills from his residents (residence), and that he was not licensed to do so.”
Cody Yentzer waived all his charges into the Court of Common Pleas shortly after he was arraigned before District Judge Annette Easton. He remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
At press time, Gayla Yentzer has not been arraigned before District Judge Delores Bristol and no bail has been set. According to Judge Bristol’s Office, Yentzer’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 14 at 3:30 p.m and she will be arraigned at that time.
