Born and raised in Pike County, KY, the son of Asa Harmon and Martha "Patty" (Cline) McCoy. He married Sarah Wolford on October 30, 1890 in Pike County, KY, and fathered two children: Perry (1881), named for his uncle Perry Cline, and Lewis Jefferson, Jr. (1886). Jeff McCoy was an important figure in the Hatfield-McCoy Feud. In September of 1885, he shot and wounded Tom Wallace, a Hatfield associate. In March of 1886, he and Andy Wolford stabbed Fred Wolford. In December of 1886, Cap Hatfield shot Jeff to death at the Tug River. In 1887, the Commonwealth dropped a Wolford murder charge and a horse theft case against him due to his death. There is no record of Jeff's burial location. The Billie Dotson Cemetery is an assumed location. Brk 47685525
