I recently came across this post of David Schaub on the Coudersport Remember When Facebook group. Seated in the front row, holding a basketball is David's father, Lewis "Louie" Schaub. This is the Coudersport High School Basketball Team in 1944/1945.
I'm not sure who, other than Louie and Bud Tombs, in this photo is still living. Bud Tombs lives just down the street from me. Louie is still living in Coudersport. Rip Francis, (number 9) died a couple years ago. He worked for Hartford Brothers with my father in the 1960s in the Natural Gas industry as the payroll accountant.
Louie was an exceptional athlete and History teacher at Coudersport High School.
Lewis Stanley "Louie" Schaub is the son of

My uncle John McElroy No. 4, born in 1927 at the Frinks Station Farm, was president of his class, after graduation played in the Army orchestra when stationed in post-WWII Germany, attended Mansfield Teacher's College on the GI Bill and made his career as band director in Morris and Cheektowaga, NY schools. He died in 2017.

Raymond "Inks" Sebolt- 510 Dwight Street, class treasurer, all-round athlete (football, basketball), class plays, band... His sister, Lucille, married Harold Carl Roberts, another outstanding Coudy athlete, among those Gridiron Greats honored at the Homecoming game in 1960 (fullback, 1943). They were the parents of Tom and Jeffrey Roberts; we were next-door neighbors through-out school years. Sorry, that was quite a segway; got carried away.

Gene DeStevens, of course, was a well-known stand-out athlete. He played college ball at St. Bonaventure, joining another Coudy star, Earl "Buggsy" Smith, 3 years older I think. It just dawned on me that these two Coudersport athletes were on the gridiron that sunny Sunday afternoon 16 October 1949 when the doctor was called away from the game to help me make my entrance into this world.

Plays Sunday at St. Bonas
EUGENE DE STEVENS
Gene DeStevens, former Coudersport two-sports star, will get his first taste of collegiate athletic competition this coming Sunday in St. Bonaventure's Forness Stadium.
DeStevens joins Earl "Buggsy" Smith, another Coudersport resident, as an Indian athlete. In this particular contest, the annual Browns versus Whites intra-squad classic, these two Pennsylvanians may be on opposing teams.
Still in his teens, he won't be twenty until December 19, DeStevens has been the object of much experimenting during Spring drills by Head Coach Hugh J. Devore. A power runner of much promise, Gene has been alternated between the right half and fullback posts. He stands 5-10 and weighs 185.
Indications point to DeStevens running from the fullback post in the Sunday tilt, for either Brown coach Ken Stilley or White mentor Johnny Agnone. Squads are not expected to be picked before Friday evening. Depending upon the way the choices go, DeStevens and Smith may or may not be teammates.
This will be the third such clash for Smith, a standout ball carrier since he entered St. Bonaventure in 1946. Smith was hampered with Injuries during the most of the '48 campaign, but has been running hard during the past month.
Before sidelined by injuries last season, Smith came up with four pass interceptions for 28 yards, returned one kickoff 17 yards and three punts for 23 yards. In '47 he won No. 3 in rushing 230 yards in 39 carries.

Coach Robert Tut Moore was from Philipsburg, PA and Lewis Schaub said he coached football ???? and basketball ???? at Coudersport. He then went to Mansfield University and coached football there.
