Notes about Uriah Runyon
Uriah Runyon , born 1830 married Sarah or Sally Roberts on Feb 8, 1855. They lived in Logan Co., W.Virginia During the Civil War, Uriah enlisted in Co.1 , commanded by Captain Jules M. Kirk of the 39th Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers Infantry , commanded by Col. David Mims on Sep 9, 1863 at Peach Orchard , Kentucky. He was mustered in as Pvt to serve 3 years , but never completed his enlistment. In a special issue called the Heritage of Mingo , published by the Mingo Co Geneaology Society , Williamson, West Va. Aurthor Tom Atkins tells the following tale. One raid involved a skirmish on Pond Creek in Pike Co., Ky, near the present location of the Magic Mart Store. In that skirmish Uriah Runyon was killed. Uriah was buried on the little hill there and his remains were later removed to Apple Orchard Cemetery on the brushy fork of John's Creek. Uriah Runyon commanded a Union group . He was the son of Adam Runyon Jr and Martha Harris. He was a brother to Clay Farley's wife Polly of Wolf Creek, a brother of Emmariah Runyon/ Harmon of Wolf Creek from whom this writer descends. He was also a brother of Lewis Runyon of Johns Creek 1/2 brother to Napoleon B. Slater of Slaters Branch and to Columbia America Slater who married Wallace J. Williamson, founder of the city Williamson, and to John B. Slater who owned the upper section of West Williamson which included the land where Fairview Cemetery is now located. Uriah also had a number of 1/2 brothers and sisters who were children by his fathers second wife Wealthy aldridge.
