Around 1830, Madison Clark Hatfield moved from Virginia, to the area that became Arkansas. In this photo from 1905, my great-grandfather Hiram Edward Hatfield stands with his patrol horse. He was a sheriff deputy. My grandfather, Hiram Jefferson Hatfield, is two years old and wearing a dress, being held by his mother Molly Hatfield. The house is in Washington, Arkansas, which served as the Capitol of the Confederacy for a time. It is called the Stuart House. It really is that massive.
