9th (3737) Chauncey Babcock Goodrich (Ernest (8) Milo (7) Chauncey (6) Stephen (5) Stephen (4) William (3) Ephraim (2) William (1)) b. Sherman, N.Y. Chautauqua County July 27, 1878. Lived at Sherman, N.Y. on his father's farm until age 12 when his father sold the farm and moved to Spring Creek, Pa. There he worked for his Uncle John Bell for his board and some clothes and went to school; then worked for Homer Tucker on his farm for 25 cents a day; on school days only board was paid. At age 15 he moved with his parents to Conewango Valley, Cattaragus County, N.Y. where he worked for years. (Limestone, N.Y.) Summers he pumped oil wells on the Irvin Farm for the Devonian Oil Co. In the fall of 1897 moved with his parents to Limestone, Cattaragus Co., N.Y where he dressed tools for Heffner and Mains for about a year. In the spring of 1899 he drove team for Booze Bros.; then for Mallory and Van Scoy for about 4 years, receiving fifty to fifty-five dollars a month and board himself. His father died when he was 21, leaving it to his lot to care for his mother, grandmother, and brothers and sisters. He dressed tools for different ones. At age 25 he started dressing tools for Griffith Bros. (1903). In the spring of 1906 he started drilling for Griffith Bros. Jan. 29, 1912 he bought the drilling tools from Griffith Bros. thus becoming a contractor drilling for the Bradford Gas Co. in Potter Co.; continuing until the company was sold to Allegany Gas CO. in the fall of 1927; drilling 243 wells in all. m. Feb. 2, 1907, Ruth Clara Jones, daughter of David Simon and Alida Jane Loop Jones of Carrollton, Catt. Co. N.Y.; started housekeeping in Roulette, Potter Co. In May 1919 he bought a farm of about 150 acres and formed a homestead; added to this until the farm was about 350 acres, where he bred Registered Holstein cattle, was a member of the Holstein-Friesian Assoc. of America. He was a director of the State Bank of Roulette. d. Aug 11, 1962.
