Both the Barber and Kent families have lived in and operated the landmark funeral home building on Main Street for generations. Started by Robert J. Barber in 1931 in Breesport, NY, the Barber Funeral Home moved to its current location in Horseheads in 1939. The funeral home was passed to his son Jack in 1959, and then to Jack and Nancy’s son Scott in the early 1990’s. In 2017, Scott turned over the reins to his friend and colleague, Walter Kent and family. Now Walter and his son Tyler continue the Barber tradition of service by father and son. In 2018 the funeral home welcomed the third generation of Kents with the birth of Tyler & Ellen’s son Harvey, and their son Isaac in 2022. Our staff continues to grow with funerla directors, students, and residents looking to serve our community for generations to come.
