MAY STEVENS HOWE
May Stevens Howe. Gold, Pa., died at the home of her daughter, Sarah E. Howe, 21 Gould avenue, Caldwell, N. J., March 11, 1926. She had been with her daughter since the Christmas holidays and although not enjoying good health for the last several years her passing was rather sudden. The remains were brought to the home of her nephew, Preston A. Erway, where the funeral was held, Sunday, March 14, Rev. Johnstone of Ulysses, officiating. Interment was made in Raymond cemetery.
May Stevens was born at Harrison Valley, June 25, 1866, oldest daughter of Sylvester K. and Sarah (Stone) Stevens. Her entire childhood was spent in the town of Harrison, her parents having moved to Whites Corners when she was eight years old. She attended the public schools and later graduated from the Troupsburg Academy. She taught school several years and June 25, 1890 was married to T. C. Howe, Genesee, Pa., who died at their late home in Gold, December 8, 1923. To them were born five children,
- Lawrence of Galeton,
- Sarah of Caldwell, N. J.,
- Esther of Mansfield Normal,
- Eleanor (Mrs. Ross Young) of Newfield. and
- Josiah Kilby who died in infancy.
She is also survived by two grandchildren and two brothers,
- Herbert C. Stevens of Whites Corners and
- Wm. E. Stevens of Hornell, N. Y.
Her whole life was spent in Potter county and the self-sacrificing and Christian life she led will long be remembered by her relatives and friends.
LITTLE DAUGHTER ARRIVES
A little daughter was born, March 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Bailey of Mt Jewett, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Effie Shreves of Second street. The little miss has been named Effie Montana.
