HORACE E. NELSON DIES SUDDENLY
HE IS STRICKEN IN THE OAT FIELD
Horace E. Nelson, one of the" old and highly respected residents of Potter county, was suddenly called to his long home last Saturday morning September 7th about five o'clock. He was stricken ill the day before while working in the oatfleld. He was for years one of the best known citizens of Allegany township and also had many friends throughout the county including Coudersport. His brother, William Nelson, of Austin, it will be remembered, lost his useful life in the Austin flood.
Horace Nelson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Nelson, early settlers of Potter county, and was born in Allegany township, where he died, sixty years ago. He will be greatly missed in the affairs of his neighborhood and town as he was always active and intelligent as a neighbor and friend and always took a deep interest in public affairs. He was also a faithful husband and loving father and is survived by his loving companion and three children - two sons and one daughter - Curt and Earl and daughter Mrs. Jones, also two brothers Robert and Charles.
The funeral was held at the .residence Monday at 1 p. m. and was very largely attended. Rev. Herrick of Whitsvile officiated. Many beautiful flowers were placed on the casket by loving hands. The interment was in the Oswayo Cemetery. Grabe and Son, funeral directors.
WORK OF THE SEPTEMBER COURT
ONLY MINOR CASES DISPOSED
Perry Brock of Hebron was made foreman of the Grand Jury Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Judge John Ormerod upon the convening of the September term of Court. The jurors were resularly sworn by Prothonotary F. J. Wandall. Mrs. O. A. Corsaw, the official stenographer, arrived from Weilsboro on Saturday and was present. Court Crier H. T. Nelson and Tipstaves S. T. Lyman and J. H. Loghry were in their respective places. Judge Ormerod delivered an earnest and able charge to the grand jurors. Constable M. F. Kidney of Port Allegany was selected to take charge of the grand jury.
NOT GUILTY OF COURSE Child's Case in Court Is Disposed of by a Jury. Floyd Slater is Acquitted
Floyd Slater, the half witted adopted boy - fourteen years old - of Mr. and Mrs. William Doty of Galeton was tried before a jury Friday morning on the charge of attempted criminal assauit upon the little nine-year-old girl of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Byam also of Galeton. The little girl was not able to give anything like an intelligent account of the affair and Dr. J. T. Hand, who examined her, testified that she had not been injured. The boy had been adopted, from a neighboring county home. Neither of the children involved is normally bright and both need care and attention and education more than anything else. The girl dii not look more than five and the boy more than twelve. The jury promptly and properly returned a verdict of not guilty, and divided the costs between the defendant and the girl's father Lester Byam.
