John Weimer in the U.S., Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970
Name: John Weimer
Birth: 1740 Germany
Death: 24 Jan 1831 Medford, Somerset, Pennsylvania
[24] [1813 Jan 24 corrected date; applicant had transposed 1813/1831 -jcw]
SAR Membership: 56629
Role: Ancestor
App Date: 15 Jun 1938
Spouse: Susanna Weimer
Children: John Weimer
[24] Death Date
24 Jan 1813 rather than 24 Jan 1831
The original data on the record is incorrect.
Applicant's error. JW died suddenly in 1813; his widow and some of his children emigrated to Ohio in 1815 to settle on some land he'd bought for the purpose. The applicant has apparently transposed the last two numbers of the date 1813.

20220913GHLn- Weimer paragraph transcribed, J.C. Wetzel:
MILFORD P.535
John Weimer, a native of Germany, was one of the first settlers of Millford, and located on a farm in the northeastern part of the township. Years later the farm passed into the possession of John Weimer's son Henry, who sold it to Peter Putman, whose son Peter now owns it. Samuel, another son of John Weimer, was born in thie township about 1779, and dies in 1828. He married Cathatrine Wisebaugh, and had seven children who reached mature years:
Henry S. Joseph
Christian David
Susanna (Schrock)
Catharine (Sutter) and
Margaret (Snyder).
Jeremiah, who died in Cambria county in 1881, was the father of Jeremiah Weimer, who has resided on the old George Phillippi farm since 1853. Jere, Jr., was born in Brother's Valley, but came to Milford when young.
Weimer Family
"Brothers John, Frederick, and Martin Weimer emigrated from Dortmund, Germany in 1760. They landed in Baltimore, Maryland, and later settled in Pennsylvania. All three were Revolutionary War soldiers. The Weimer farm at the "Weimer Flats" along Route 281 is owned by descendents of John, who was born in 1740 and died 1-24-1831. He served as a corporal in Captain John Reiley's Co., Third Pennsylvania Continental Line in 1778-79 which was at Valley Forge with George Washington. After the Revolution, John, his wife Susanna (born 5-7-1741, died 1-27-1831) and their family settled in Somerset County where he was granted 336 acres of bounty land in Milford Township. He received title to his land on Feb. 26, 1788 and named it Prospect Hill.".

___________
John D weimer
Note: One of Somerset Counties' earliest settlers in Milford Twp., where he owned several farms at the time of his death.
John was blind for many years.
John and Susannah may have sailed from Rotterdam and arrived in Philadelphia on Oct 27, 1764 on the ship ''Hero''. However, some records state that they married in 1761 in PA. His brothers Martin and Frederick also came to America. John served in the Revolutionary War as Corporal in Captain John Reiley's Company, Third Pennsylvania Continental Line in 1778 which was at Valley Forge with George Washington. Following the war, the family settled in Somerset Co. PA where John was granted 336 acres of ''bounty land'' in Milford Township for his military service. He was one of the first settlers there, and the family lived on a farm in the northeastern part of the township. He received title to his land on February 26, 1788, and named it ''Prospect Hill.'' In 1785 he and his family helped to found Samuel's Evangelical Lutheran Church, which is about three miles west of the town of Somerset. John's brother Martin and his family settled in the southern part of the county, near the Maryland border. John lived quite long and was blind for many years.
Laurel Cemetery outside New Florence on old Boswell Rd
on the ship ''Hero.''
Date reported in family Bible.

Trip to America
This data is based upon information contained in Shope Family Ancestors (7/2002) and Muck/Stewart Family File... "Coming together in America".
John and his brothers Martin and Frederick migrated to America probably as a result of religious persecution and or a drout conditions in the Germany/Switzerland area. His wife Susannah may have been on the ship with him or he might have met and married in America. He probably sailed from Rotterdam on the Hero arriving in Phildelphia, October 1764. On the other hand he may have been in America as early as 1760-61. He served in the revoution war (see war record) and received 366 acres for doing so in 1788. It was named Prospect Hill..

Revolt that wasn't
According to other researchers John's Company marched on Phildelphia, in protest, over not being paid in over a year. Along the way they were intercepted by a British detachment that offered them twice the pay if they would come over to the British side. The Company refused.
