Dies Very Suddenly
Funeral Service Held Monday Afternoon For Don H Ayers.
Don Howard Ayers, who was during his whole life a resident of Coudersport, died suddenly in Emergency Hospital in Buffalo, Friday (Sept 12, 1952). He expected to go to work in Buffalo the next day and was suddenly stricken.
Howard Ayers was born at Port Allegany, Jan. 15, 1925, a son of Clyde and Fern Buchanan Ayers. He attended the local schools and on Jan. 24, 1947, he enlisted in Philadelphia for service in World War II. His service included over four months overseas. He was given the Army of Occupation medal, Japan, and was discharged March 11, 1948 at Camp Stoneham, Calif.
He married Madge Marie Mitchell at Perry. N. Y., in June, 1949, and she with two daughters, Larae Ann and Sandra Lee, survive.
Other survivors are his parents, and eight brothers and sisters:
- Mrs. Doris Mervine, Richmond, Va.;
- Mrs. Delia Furman, Cherry Point, N. C;
- Corp. Jack Ayers, U. S. Army in Alaska;
- Seaman Apprentice Dale Ayers, Naas Field, Foley, Ala.;
- Stacy Ayers, Warren;
- Leo, Grace and Joe Ayers, Coudersport.
Funeral service was held from the Grabe Funeral Home here Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Benton S. Swartz officiating.
- Interment was in Eulalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
- Leo and Stacy Ayers,
- Richard Furman,
- Oliver and Paul Watson and
- Howard Moore.
Brother-in-Law of Local Woman Dies
Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield Cook were called to Hornell, Sunday by the sudden death of Mrs. Cooks, brother-in-law, Warren Wenzel. Mr. and Mrs. Cook attended the funeral at Jersey Shore Wednesday afternoon.
Many Local Students Back At Mansfield
Among the students who have left for Mansfield to enter the fall college term are
- Miss Mary Dewey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dewey, who is a senior;
- Miss Dorothy Leonard, a freshman;
- Jack Kelsey, sophomore and his brother,
- Donald, a senior.
Jack and Donald are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne E. Kelsey. Also
- Bob Sallade, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Sallade, who is a sophomore and
- Miss Barbara Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scott, a sophomore.
Mrs. Harold Bradley Suffers Lacerations of Wrist
Mrs. Harold Bradley injured her right wrist Friday morning in her home on North East Street. She had raised a Venetian blind at a kitchen window. It apparently did not catch and slammed down on her wrist, severing four tendons leading to her thumb.
She was treated at the Potter County Memorial Hospital and discharged.
Genesee Service Man To Wed in Arizona
Mr. and Mrs. George Haskins of Genesee announce the engagement of their son, A 3c Donald R. Haskins to Annie Gertrude Pelham, of Phoenix, Ariz. Donald is stationed at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, Ariz.
The wedding will take place on the base in the chapel on October 3 at 8:00 p. m.
87th Birthday Anniversary Dinner
Mrs. J. B. Ostrander celebrated her 87th birthday anniversary at her home, Sunday. A beautiful birthday cake centered the table. Lunch was served to members of her family.
Mrs. Ostrander received many lovely gifts and best wishes of all present.
Ulysses Boys Guests of Relatives Here
Last week Timmy Freeman was a guest of his great grandmother, Mrs. Clarence Neefe. His brother, Terry, visited his aunt, Mrs. A. H. Clark, and Mr. Clark.
Timmy and Terry are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Freeman of Ulysses.
