Remembering Helen Snowman and her front porch which was open to all for visiting. I have many fond memories as a child of spending time at the their farm, esp boating in the pond with her daughter, my good friend, Kara. Would walk from the Snowman's house to the Coudy theater almost every Sunday night to see the latest movie. Her house was a gathering place in town during my teenage years just talking, making Chef Boyardee pizzas, drinking hot tea, and playing scrabble. And also the wonderful Greek Baklava, so delicious. She will be greatly missed.

JURORS EXCUSED FOR MARCH COURT
Court Will Be Held For Other Business Than Jury Trials Must Renew Bail Bonds.
Judge Robert R. Lewis has excused all grand and trial jurors from attendance at the regular March term of court. Court will be held for the disposition of business other than jury trials. All persons on bail must be present to renew their bail.
There were so few cases requiring a jury trial that the court deemed this the best and most economical method. It will save a neat sum for the taxpayers of the county.
BARN DESTROYED BY FIRE
Yesterday's Shinglehouse Mail says: The large barn on what is known as the Lew Chamberlin farm and now owned by John Burk, on the cross road between Myrtle and the power house, was totally destroyed by fire last night, together with farm machinery, hay and grain. The fire was discovered a- bout 6:30 o clock and was beyond con trol in a few brief minutes. A pumper came from Bolivar and connection made at the Oswayo creek, and a large farm house was saved.
The herd of 12 or 15 cows and a span of horses were lead to safety, and are being housed in a barn of Rex Turner's farm near Ceres. The destroyed barn was erected between 40 and 50 years ago and was of heavy frame structure. It was 40x120 feet in size of gamble roof style, being one of the largest in this section. Burk carried insurance with the Farmers Alliance, but just how much we were unable to ascertain this morning.
TRYING TO LOCATE GAS
The following Shinglehouse men have formed a gas corporation under the laws of New York State to be known as the Crescent Producing Corporation:
Clarence Kemp, pres.;
W. H. Briggs, vice pres.;
Roy Babcock, sec;
R. L. Lunn, treas.;
Paul Kemp, Ira Press,
Fred Phoenix, H. B. Foster,
Glen Dawley, Kenneth Fenner,
E. H. Stone, Geo. Seibert
and Bert Kellogg
are the other members.
They have acquired leases in the Dundee gas field and commenced drilling a well on Waneta Lake near the village of Wayne. They are at a depth of 400 feet. Contractors E. H. Stone Ss Co., are doing the drilling. Here is hoping they strike a big gasser. Shinglehouse Mail.

DISCOVER CUB BEARS
Trappers recently discovered an old mother bear and three cubs on Young Woman's Creek. The bear family den was in a huge hollow stump with no shelter over it. Game Protector Englert has visited the spot and looked in upon the family. He has given strict orders the bears be not disturbed.
FIRE ALARM SOUNDED
A fire alarm yesterday morning at 8:30 caused the local firemen to make a quick run to the home of Oscar Snyder on West Maple Street. The boys found a chimney burning out and it was not necessary for them to go into action.
