Misses Matilda Deemer, Eda Doerner, Sarah Lyman, Kate Kernan, Nealia Marble, Florence Mattison,Inez Metzger, Nora Metsger, Lettie Palmer, Mary Palmer, Nellie Perkins, and Carrie Presho.
The first officers were installed March 10, that year.
Ephraim Kile Co G, 149th PA Vols, Pvt. Enlisted in Potter Co. on 8/16/1862 and mustered in 8/26/1862. Age 31, born in IL. Hospitalized in General Hospital Annapolis, MD, July/Aug, 1863 for chronic diarrhea/dyspepsia. Sent to Satterlee Hosp Philadelphia on Nov. 7, 1863. Rejoined the company on Dec 6, 1863. Was captured at the Battle of the Wilderness on 5/5/1864. Held POW at Danville, VA and admitted to hospital there 10/16/1864. Died of chronic diarrhea 11/11/1864

Francis P. Nichols b. October 12, 1846, d. June 10, 1924. His parents were Maleck and Cordelia (Perry) Nichols, "enlisted, in 1862, in Company B, One Hundred and Seventy-first Pennsylvania Volunteers, in which regiment he served one year. he again enlisted in 1864, this time in Company K, Thirteenth New York Heavy Artillery, and was honorably discharged at the close of the war." (Leeson)

Francis Reed Co F 85th New York Infantry. Enlisted September 1, 1861 at Hebron, Potter Co., PA Mustered in at Elmira, NY on Dec 3, 1861. Reported sick since June 28, 1862; sent to General Hospital Harrisons Landing, VA. Died July 10, 1862, age 23, single, at General Hospital, Philadelphia, PA of Enteric Fever. Hospital number 53. Buried July 11, 1862 at the Lafayette Cemetery, Philiadelphia, PA. Unknown if remains were returned to Potter Co. or if he was later buried in a National Cemetery.

William L. Shattuck, Jr Comrade Shattuck enlisted August 26, 1861 at the age of 28 years, in Co. G, 46th Pa. V.I. 1st Div. 12th A.C. He was enrolled as a Pvt. and won successive promotions to 2nd Sergt., Ord. Sergt., 2nd Leut. & Capt. August 9, 1862, he was captured at Cider Mt. by Jackson's men, being held at Libby and Belle Isle prisons for 6 wks. In July 1863, he was confined in hospital in Washington and Philadelphia, to Dec 1863, suffering with typhoid fever. On Oct. 1863 he was furloughed for 30 days; this was extended 20 days, then he reported for duty at Deckert Station, Tenn. His battle record: Winchester, Strausburg, Middleton, New Market, Harrisburg, Front Royal, Cedar Mt., Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mt., Resaca, Kinston, Dallas, Peach Tree Creek, Lost Mt., Altoona, Atlanta, Milbridgeville, Sherman's March to the Sea, Savannah, and the Carolinas to Johnson's surrender. He was injured in the shoulder in 1864, near Atlanta, GA by explosion of shell. He was honorably discharged July 30,1865 at Harrisburg, Pa. He had two brothers in the war John and Alonzo, in 149th PA Vols. (Bucktails); His grandfather Shattuck served in the Revolutionary War and died in service.
William Sherwood Pvt. - Company G, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry (Bucktails) He was in the battles of Chancellorsville, Fitzhugh's Crossing (Pollack Mill Creek) and was wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He was captured and held 5 days and then released and sent to hospital at Little York, PA.
"He is buried in East Sharon Cemetery. upper left hand corner in the pine trees. He does have a civil war headstone, Plus a regular one with his wife listed. Sherwood Thusa his wife 1854-1936 William 1842-1918"

Enlisted into Co I as a private on 9/10/1864 at Independence NY. Listed on Rolls as Noice Snyder. Promoted to Corporal, promoted to Sergeant on 3/16/1865. Mustered out 5/30/1865 at Washington D C. Residence after War - Liberty, Woodbury Co., Iowa Pension applied for in Iowa

Amos Russell Stillman Crandall Hill, Hebron Cemetery) Amos "Russell" Stillman was one of the first to join the northern troops when the Civil War broke out, along with his 18-year old son Birney. He was in Sherman's march to the sea. Contracted tuberculosis due to exposure to the elements. He was discharged from the 46th Regiment of PA Volunteers in 1865. Later went to Florida to live at a boardinghouse, thinking the climate would be good for his health. He continued to get worse and finally came home where he died in 1893. Birney Rufus Stillman (Son of Amos Russell Stillman) At age 18, Birney went off to the Civil War with his father Amos Russell Stillman. He suffered a complete nervous breakdown and was honorably discharged from the the 46th Regiment PA Volunteers in 1865. He was not able to serve long because the horrors of war were too much for him. He died in a VA hospital in Washington D.C. in 1885. He was not buried in Potter County. (from family notes compiled by Carol Metzger Wilkerson) We're still trying to locate his grave.
