Reason This Information Is Correct:
Freist, NOT Friest, is the spelling shown on the grave marker in Wisconsin and in the parish register of Roda for the birth of daughter Auguste Pauline in 1820 (Family Search Microfilm # 1196039, Reel 28, p. 10, listing 38) Less

1782, before June 18
Saxony, Sachsen, Germany
Reason This Information Is Correct:
No birth record has been identified in German church record archives as of March, 2016. The ship's manifest upon arrival on 25 Sep 1840 lists her age as 58. The US census on 18 Jun 1860 lists her age as 78. The abstract from Find-a-Grave states she was 81 on her death on 8 Mar 1860. A picture of her gravestone from Find-a-Grave is inscribed with death date of 8 Mar 1860. The census and the ship's manifest are consistent with a birth date in 1782 before June 18. The death date inscribed on the grave marker is not consistent with the 1860 census date. The names on the grave marker-Helen Neefe with Friest also--suggest this is the proper grave but the wrong date. The place of birth is not documented yet. She emigrated from Roda (todays Stadtroda, most likely) in Sachsen-Altenburg. It cannot be excluded that she was born in Prussian Saxony (Sachsen-Anhalt), but Sachsen-Altenburg is more likely Less
