Earl Franklin "Frank" Hill, 85, a lifelong resident of the North Fork of Big Creek, Boone County, departed this life Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington. Born April 22, 1923, on the North Fork of Big Creek, he was the eleventh child and ninth son of the late Edward W. and Annie L. Stollings Hill. Also preceding him in death was his wife of over 64 years, Naomi Ruth Stone Hill; one infant son, Richard Earl Hill; two sisters, Mary Hill Ellis and Burns Hill Queen; six brothers, Charley Leonard, Wallace Alvin, Oscar Erthel, Aubrey, Roscoe Mason, and Sidney Basil. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran, truck driver, and school bus driver for 27 years. He was a farmer, first, last and always. Dad gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and loved unselfishly his God, family and friends. He was a faithful, dedicated member of the First Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of Garretts Fork since 1952. He served his family, his county, his community and his country in various ways. Some of the organizations that he served on were Guyan Soil Conservation Service, Greater Kanawha RC&D, Farm Bureau, Boone County Fair Board, Chapmanville American Legion, Madison VFW, Area Agency on Aging, Southern WV Horsemen Association and Farm Service Agency. He was an awesome dad, granddad and neighbor, a true friend to those in need and a lover of animals and the land. He was known as Earl, Frank, Uncle Frank, Papaw, Daddy or Dad. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Sue (Jack) Jarrell of Barboursville and Barbara Gail (Mike) Stowers of Chapmanville; three sons, Sherry Grant (Sharon) Hill, Paul Wayne (Tammy) Hill and Earl Franklin II \"Punkin\" (Teresa) Hill, all of Chapmanville; Frank is Papaw to seven granddaughters, Carolyn Baker, Trish (Mike) Baker, Tina (Jonathan) Richardson, Traci Hill, Emily Hill, Jessica Stowers and Teri (Jake) Ferrell; seven grandsons, Patrick (Liz) Hill, Matthew (Tera) Hill, Earl F. (Lori) Hill III, Aaron Stowers, Taylor (Elizabeth) Hill, Barry Stowers and Caleb Hill; four great-granddaughters, Morgan Baker, Brooklyn Burgess, Ava Hill and Mikayla Baker, and five great-grandsons, Tyler Akers, Sean Hill, Mason Hill, Britain Hill and Jason Wayne Ferrell; also two step great-granddaughters, Sydney and Piper Richardson, and two brothers, Edward (Oma Lee) Hill of Kenova and Julian (Betty) Hill of Buffalo.
