phone, Boots, to discuss 'her good news' in post last night (gravestone she'd discovered near Hill Cemetery, just up the hill from her trailer park, then identified by cleaning and rubbing with magic marker:
- Alexander Boulson, pvt Co. C d. 1/9/1894, from a fall helping 'Wheland' build a house). I also asked about the 1936-37 Roulette school photo, 2nd-3rd grades,
School Roulette 1936-37 2nd_3rd gr IDd Hoak Varney FB190113LN.jpg
- Weimer J. Kibbe- Yes, Weimer was his given name. This family were their (Varney's) neighbrs after her graduation.
- Billie Weimer- in trouble as a kid, ended up in juvenile detention facility.
- Ruth Weimer- Family indigenous to Roulette.
- Henry Weimer- deceased.
[Harry Weimer b.1950, FB- thread with Joyce Barr-
- Joyce Barr- Jim Barr's wife.
- Don Hoak's nickname in HS was 'Tiger'.
- James Harper McDonald, Medal of Honor winner from Roulette, saved 26 sailors from the USS Squalus when it sank. -Look this up.
also, pic Boots etal FB180916LNunn.jpg -
howard smith , laverne howard , gordon hallock., shirley brown cimino , lydia varney haskins , dorothy tauscher smith.
Howard and Leslie Smith were brothers, their father being Lafe Smith, who lived on Main Street, Roulette.
- Leslie was the Smith married to Dorothy Tauscher in this photo. Dorothy had first married 'Jaybird' Weimer', already in the service at the time she was pregnant her junior year in HS. The baby died after a couple months and Jaybird held this against her; the marriage ended in divorce.
Dorothy then married Leslie Smith.
- Lavern Howard was a minister for 51 years on Sartwell Creek.
- Shirley Brown Cimino, deceased now, lived in Galeton, worked at the telephone company.
What about Gordon Hallock, also in the '36-'37 photo with Glendon Hallock?
Lydia's grandfather worked at the Stave Mill, before it was moved to ...
He made 8 violins in his lifetime and he gave them all away to family members.
He also worked at a sawmill (Dunlevy's) in Ellisburg, cf. photo:
Dunlevy, EV Saw MIll c1895 Ellisburg FB181003LN.jpg
I only have 3 children for him:
- Carlos
- Hazel
- Merle
There was also:
- Ethel: married Hawger; Ethel did not remarry after he died. Their kids:
- Claire (son)
- Elmer
- Ina: married 5x.
Ina's 1st husband was Clayton Allen, who died.
One husband donated the land for the Fishing Creek Cemetery, in which he is not even buried, but rather just outside it.
Another husband, Owen Dewiss; they lived in Coudy.
BTW, it was Hazel's house in which Will (Boots' grandfather) fell down the stairs and died from the fall. He was living with her.
She married Eastman, which I have.

· Lafey Smith about 1986, when I had the restaurant in town, I went to Card Creek Cemetery. I was taking information off head stones recording family history. Mr. Smith was there; he was the caretaker at the time. He sat down on a head stone and said is there anything you want to know about anyone here, I know most all of them. We talked for a while about the past and I listened to his great stories. I had my camera with me and asked him if I could take his picture. He walked down by his truck straightened his clothes and gave me a smile. I gave him a picture, and he carried it with him for a while saying his girlfriend gave it to him

Lots and lots of good memories with Grampa and Gramma Smith. Never had to shovel cow shit, hay or help in the cemetaries

Dug graves and mowed cemeteries with him. Put in a lot of hay in his barns. The first thing I ever drove was his tractor.

Beautiful memory. He lived next to my grandmother and grandfather Carpenter, and let us kids come over and watch his cows being milked.

We lived next door to Lafey until he passed. Used to get a kick out him taking his lawnmower up to the friendly inn.
