MRS. JAMES VAUGHEN
Mrs James Vaughen of Sweden Hill, Potter County died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Sandusky at Columbia, Ky., Sunday night. Mrs. Vaughen had been in poor heaith for some and last fall went to Kentuky hoping that the change in climate Would be beneficial to her. However she was taken very ill during the holidays and was unable to rally. She was sixty-two years of age and had been a resident of this county for some time, coming here from the south.
Deceased is survived by her husband James Vaughen;
three sons,
- Joseph Vaughen of Akron, O.
- Sewell and Francis Vaughen who are students at Memorial School at Harrolgate, Tenn.; also five daughters,
- Mrs. Carrie Devall of Arizona,
- Mrs. Etta Long of Akron, O.,
- Mrs. Willis Pfuntner of Ladona, Pa.,
- Mrs. Laura Cammack of Sweden Hill, Pa., and
- Mrs. William Sandusky of Columbia, Ky.
Mrs. Vaughen was a noble, Christian respected and loved by all who knew her. She was a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by those at Sweden Hill, who knew her best.
- Burial was made near her old home at Columbia, Ky.

Sewell T. Vaughan
Former Residents of Galeton, Genesee and Coudersport Dies.
Sewall Tennyson Vaughan, 57, of Westfield, formerly of Coudersport and Galeton, died at 2:30 p. m. Friday (August. 5, 1955) at the Potter County Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, where he was taken by ambulance, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at his home, on Thursday morning. He was found unconcious by Mrs. Vaughan and never regained consciousness.
He was born at Crocus, Ky., Jan. 30, 1898, a son of James and Martha Marie Vaughan. Following graduation from Lindsey Wilson College, he taught school before moving to New Haven, Conn and later to Akron, Ohio, where he worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. From Ohio he came to Potter County, to join his father at farming on Sweden Valley Hill. In 1925 Mr. Vaughan was married to Miss Augusta Kenyon of Genesee at Coudersport where they resided for a time before purchasing a general store business at Genesee. Mr. Vaughan became a roofing contractor in addition to the store business. which was managed by Mrs. Vaughan. In 1947, the Vaughans moved to Galeton and four years ago located at Westfield, where Mrs. Vaughan had been a teacher in the Westfield Borough School.
Mr. Vaughan had been a member of the Presbyterian Church at Crocus, Ky., and had never transferred his membership. He was a member of Lewisville Masonic Lodge and the Coudersport Consistory.

- Mrs. James Milliron, Bath, N. Y.,;
- son, Douglas L. Vaughan, Galeton,
- aged father James W. Vaughan, Coudersport;
five sisters,
- Mrs. Samuel Commack, Coudersport;
- Mrs. Marcus Loy, Coudersport, R. D.,
- Mrs. W. W. Pfuntner, Hendersonville, N. C;
- Mrs. Samuel Duvall, Lewisville, Ky., and
- Mrs. William Sandusky, Columbia, Ky
two brothers,
- Joseph Vaughan, Manilla, Philippine Islands and
- Col. Francis Vaughan, with the U S. Army in Japan,
also five grandchildren.
Body was brought to the White Funeral Home in Galeton and was taken to Brookland Monday morning for funeral services in All Saints Episcopal Church at 11:00 a. m. with the Rev. Dr. James L. Holliday, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Galeton, officiating.
- Interment was made in the Genesee Cemetery with Masonic committal service.
BPWC Meeting
Potato City Hotel To Be Scene of Two-Day Gathering.
The Pennsylvania Federation of Business and Professional Women will meet at Pot.ito City Hotel on Route 6, located between Galeton and Coudersport. August 20 and 21 for a state board meeting. The Galeton Club and the Wellsboro Club will be hostesses for the two-day affair. Mrs. Nellie V. Curran, of Galeton, is general chairman and will be assisted by Mrs. Rose K. Hamilton, president of the Wellsboro BRW Club and committee from both clubs.
Announcement has been made that Dr. E. L. Nixon, "Mr. Potato" in whose honor a new greenhouse built with contributed funds and deeded to him. was dedicated before 3,000 persons at Potato City during the annual gettogc ther of the Pennsylvania Coop Potato Growers Inc., will be the guest speaker at the banquet Saturday evening, Augu-t 20. Music will be in charge of the Wellsboro BPWC. A breakfast at 8:00 a. m. Sunday will feature the program.
