LONG-TIME RESIDENT GOES TO REWARD
Mary Eliza Johnston, a resident of Coudersport for many years, succumbed to an illness of two months, at her home Saturday afternoon. She was the widow of james K. jonnston, a Civil War veteran whose death occurred Oct. 27, 1915.
A native of Bath, N. Y., Mrs. Johnston was born May 19, 1852, a daughter of the late John and Emily Colcord Calkins. Her mother died when she was five years old and she was brought up by her grandmother, Emily Colcord. She was married to James K. Johnston of Hobert, Delaware county, July 7, 1867. Eight children were born to their union, four of whom survive:
- Emily Angevine, Rixford;

- Lillian Bittler and
- Laurent D. Johnston, Coudersport.
Mrs Johnston lived the greater part of her life in Coudersport, she and Mr. Johnston having moved here in 1874. She was a member of Park Methodist church.

She was a woman of spotless character and sincere affections. She cherished a loving charity for the erring and a quick sympathy for the afflicted. To those who knew her best, her memory is a benediction, her example an inspiration, her death a personal loss. She leaves 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
The funeral was held at her home at 508 South Mill street, with the Rev. Paul Keller, pastor of Park Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in the family plot in Eulalia Cemetery. Pall bearers were
