  	A mill erected in 1815 was the joint property of Obediah Sartwell, W. W. Whitney, Benj. Burt and David Burt.
  	20201210HAv- ca p.2 of pdf text. Obediah Sartwell was the first settler in Coudersport. He came from Langdon, N. H., in 1813 with his family of seven and built a log cabin on the west bank of the Allegheny River, a few rods south of East Second Street. He also built a blacksmith shop on the opposite side of the street, not far from the cornet of East Street. After a year he removed with his family and located near the mouth of Sartwell Creek. A mill erected in 1815 was the joint property of Obediah Sartwell, W. W. Whitney, Benj. Burt and David Burt. On Feb. 18, 1818, Governor Findlay commissioned Obediah Sartwell of Potter County a justice of the peace in the district which included the township of Roulet. On Sept. 17, 1818, Obediah and Cynthia Sartwell of Roulet deeded 50 acres of land in Roulet Township to Major Isaac Lyman for $750. On the same date Sartwell accepted a mortgage on this property to secure "payment on October 1, 1820, for 100.000 feet of merchantable white pine boards" which he had sold to Major Lyman.
