Five seniors at Coudersport Area High School were named Girls of the Month by the Business and Professionel Women's Club at the meeting Thursday night in the Home Ec rooms of the school.
Mrs. Lucille Schutt introduced the girls who will be presented with awards on Awards Day at the school: Miss Susan Gates, Miss Brenda Kenealy, Miss Gloria Vosick, Miss Andrea Bankert and Miss Connie Jaros.
Miss Gates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Howard Gates, is an active member of the school band and chorus, having attended five district band festivals, two regional band festivals and district and regional chorus. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and on the statf of the yearbook and Falcon. She is also a member of the community choir which sings each year for the Passion Play and a member of the choir of the Park Methodist Church. Her hobbies are swimming, sewing, ice skating, dancing and music. She has been accepted at Alfred University and Allegheny Collge. In 1963 she rceived the award for having the highest average in Latin I.
Miss Kenealy, daugnter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kenealy, is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, yearbook and newspaper staffs and the Newman Club of St. Eulalia Catholic Church. She has served as secretary of the senior class and Student Council and vice president of the National Honor Society. Her hobbies are reading and sports. She plans to attend the IBM Data Processing Institute and Olean Business Institute. She has received awards from the American Legion Auzilliary, Daughters of American Revolution and will represent her school at the Laurel Queen candidate in June.
Miss Vosick, daughter oi mr. anu Mrs. George Vosick, is a member of the National Honor Society, St. Eulalia Catholic Church and a member of the Newman Club. She is interested in reading and cooking in her spare time. She plans to enroll in the Olean Business Institute in September.
Miss Bankert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nolan F. Bankert, is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Teachers of America, yearbook and Falcon staffs. She is presently the worthy advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls of Coudersport Assembly No. 159. She is associate editor of the 1966 Couderian. Her hobbies include collecting classical music albums and entering advertised contests. She plans to attend Lock Haven State College where she will be a Spanish major. She reigned as Homecoming Queen in 1965.
Miss Connie Jaros, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Jaros, is a member of the National Honor Society and a band majorette. She is also a member of the Newman Club, and is serving as secretary of the National Honor Society. She plans to study at Alfred Tech to become an IBM programmer. She represented her school at the Flaming Foliage Festival and was selected to Keystone Girls State.
Mrs. Agnes Schutt presided at the business session. Mrs. Mary Currier was instructed to send the club history to state officers and Mrs. Ruth Mansfield reported on the borough council meeting.
Mrs. Currier and Miss Elizabeth Neff reported on the district meeting at Canton. District Six has and of these 117 attended. Renovo won the membership award. The personal development committee of Coudersport received recognition for the best program. Mrs. Lois Findlay is committee chairman. She and her committee introduced a program of isometric exercises to be taken by the club members over a period of time. The check-up will be at the May meeting.
Roll call was answered by each member with a resume of their business and professional experience.
The May meeting will be a dinner meeting and Miss Neff will install the officers for 1966-67. Miss Lucille Clark will initiate new members.
