Essay Contest Winners Announced

Shown above are Jeannette Burdge, Barbara Mosch and Lois Carpenter who won the 1961 DAR essay contest.
Prize winners in this year's "Historic Waterways" essay contest, sponsored by the Allegewi Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, in Potter County elementary schools, were announced this week.
Each winner received three from the chapter and the essays were forewarded to the state historian. After the state winners have been selected, the Pennsylvania prize essays go to the National Society, where the country-wide winners are chosen.
Mrs. F. W. Gunzberger is regent of the local chapter and Mrs. Calvin Carpenter serves as historian. Chapter judges for this year's contest were Mrs. Joseph Guenther, Mrs. James Burger and Mrs. James H. White.
Winners were
- Miss Jeannette Burdge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marrion Burdge, Genesee R. D. 2, and an eigth-grade pupil at Northern Potter:
- Miss Lois Carpenter, Northern Potter seventh grader and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin' R. Carpenter, Genesee R. D. 2. and
- Miss Barbara Mosch, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George C. Mosch of Coudersport. Receiving honorable mention was Judith Dunshie, a fifth-grade pupil in the Oswayo Valley Joint School system.
