Tingley, 77, of Olean, N.Y., died Wednesday, (May 24, 1995) in the Olean General Hospital, following a long illness. - He was born March 30, 1918, in Island Falls, Me., a son of Milford and Lavinia Lord Tingley. - On Jan. 10, 1939, in Port Allegany, he married the former Ruth R. (i.e. R. Ruth, vide infra) Darrin, who survives. - A former resident of Coudersport, Mr. Tingley had resided in Olean since 1962. He was employed as a meat cutter for several stores, including Market Basket, Richardson's and F.J. Mahar Service Stores, until his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Tingley also worked as a taxidermist and a fly tyer. Surviving in addition to his wife are - a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Jean) Shott of Manning, S.C.; - a son James C. Tingley of Olean; a granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, - Clair Tingley of Coudersport and - Kenneth Tingley of Columbus, Ind.; two sisters, - Dorothy Fitch of Austin and - Catherine Caldwell of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews. - He was predeceased by a brother, Vaughn Tingley. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Tingley, 88, formerly of Garden Avenue and Seneca Court, Olean, N.Y., died Tuesday (Dec. 26, 2006) at the Underwood Manor, Hinsdale, N.Y. - Born June 19, 1918 in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Caroline Golden Darrin. - On Jan. (April?) 10, 1939 in Port Allegany, she married William Tingley, who died May 24, 1995. A resident of Olean since 1962, she was formerly of Coudersport. She graduated from Coudersport High School and worked at the Market Basket, Super Duper and Richardson's Grocery stores for many years. Mrs. Tingley was a longtime volunteer at Olean General Hospital and was known for her warm smile and manner and the kindness in her heart. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and was a "people person" who enjoyed meeting and chatting with new people. Survivors include - a granddaughter, Laurie Holdcroft of Hinsdale, N.Y.; two granddaughters, - Alicia Holdcroft and Kiley (Kylie) Holdcroft, both of Hinsdale; - a brother, James Darrin of Wellsville, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by - a daughter, Jean Shott; - a son, James C. Tingley; her parents; and 13 brothers and sisters.
