Quentin A. GAMBLE
Quentin A. GAMBLE, 69, of Brookland, Ulysses, PA, died Friday, March 3, 2017 in the Bath VA Medical Center, Bath, NY.
Vietnam War Veteran
Born May 16, 1947, in Coudersport, PA, he was the son of Edward L. and Ruth A. French Gamble. On June 8, 1968, in Mayville, NY, he married the former Bonnie Seekings, who survives.
A Vietnam Veteran, he served honorably with the US Army from 1967 - 1970.
A Northern Potter High School graduate, he attended Olean Business Institute and Jamestown Community College. After serving his country, he graduated with high honors from Alfred State College with a degree in animal husbandry.
He operated a dairy farm in Mayville for five years and owned and operated a dairy farm in Forestville, NY for 17 years.
Toward the end of his farming career, he attended BOCES to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in Westfield, NY, Dunkirk, NY, and Gerry, NY.
During his nursing career, he took a year off to work as an over the road truck driver.
Quentin and Bonnie moved to Brookland in 1997 and built their retirement home.
He was last employed by PennDOT for five years.
He was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Harrison Valley and supportive of All Saints Episcopal Church in Brookland.
Surviving besides his wife, Bonnie, are:
- his mother, Ruth Gamble of Brookland;
- a sister, Phyllis (Alan) Scardina of Winston-Salem, NC;
- a brother, Darrell (Patti) Gamble of Brookland; and
two generations of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father.
Friends may call Monday, March 6, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Timothy H. Miller and the Rev. Janis Yskamp will co-officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.
- Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Brookland.

Ruth F. GAMBLE
Ruth F. GAMBLE, 98, of Brookland, Ulysses, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in her home surrounded by her family.
Born September 11, 1919, in Spring Mills, NY, she was the daughter of William and Hattie R. Whitman French.
- On July 4, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, she married Edward L. Gamble, who predeceased her on October 19, 2009.
A graduate of Harrison Valley High School and Mansfield Normal School, she began her teaching career in Thompson, PA and later taught home economics at Genesee High School and Northern Potter High School.
While attending college, she was employed by State Senator Raymond Stone at Oak Hall in Brookland, where she met Edward.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Brookland, serving as one of the first women delegates to the diocesan convention, Episcopal Church Women, serving as president, secretary, and treasurer, Potter County Historical Society, PA Association of School Retirees, and Delta Kappa Gamma, serving as chapter president and historian.
Ruth was a volunteer with Potter County Hospice.
Surviving are:
- a daughter, Phyllis (Alan) Scardina of Winston-Salem, NC;
- a son, Darrell (Patti) Gamble of Brookland;
- a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gamble of Mayville, NY;
seven grandchildren,
- Lori (Matt) Maughon,
- Michael (Debbie) Scardina,
- John (Mandy) Scardina,
- Sara Gamble,
- Aimee Crowl,
- Emily Gamble, and
- Nick Gamble;
seven great-grandchildren;
- a sister, Doris F. Clark of Westfield;
and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by
- a son, Quentin A. Gamble; and
- a sister, Bonnie Miller.
Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday in All Saints Episcopal Church, Brookland. The Rev. Janis Yskamp and the Rev. Carol Carlson will co-officiate.
- Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Edward L. Gamble, 92, of Brookland, Ulysses, PA, died Monday, October 19, 2009 in his home.
Born October 27, 1916, in Alfred, NY, he was the son of Charles H. and Carrie Mae Eaton Gamble.
- On July 4, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, he married the former Ruth A. French, who survives.
A 1934 graduate of Lewisville Vocational School in Ulysses, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Marienville, PA. He attended Penn State for three years studying pre-med and engineering and attended sheet metal school in Long Island, NY.
During World War II, he was employed with Bell Aircraft in Buffalo.
Moving to Brookland, he was a self-employed dairy farmer and carpenter and was employed as a draftsman at Worthington in Wellsville, NY.
Returning to college, he earned a degree in math education from Mansfield University in 1965 and a master's degree in 1970.
He was an elementary math teacher for 13 years with two years as building principal with the Northern Potter School District, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Brookland, where he had served as senior warden and treasurer for many years, Lewisville Lodge #556 F&AM in Ulysses, Coudersport Consistory, Ulysses Lions Club, the Tri-Town Volunteer Ambulance, serving as an ambulance attendant, and was a volunteer with Potter County Hospice. An avid reader, Ed pursued lifelong learning.
Surviving besides his wife, Ruth, are:
- a daughter, Phyllis (Alan) Scardina of Winston-Salem, NC;
two sons,
- Quentin A. (Bonnie) Gamble and
- Darrell (Patti) Gamble, both of Brookland;
seven grandchildren,
- Lori (Matt) Maughon,
- Michael (Debbie McDaniel) Scardina,
- John (Mandy) Scardina,
- Sara Gamble,
- Aimee Gamble,
- Emily Gamble, and
- Nick Gamble;
six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by
- a brother, Charles E. Gamble; and
two sisters,
- Sarah Snyder and
- Marcella Kocher.
Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 2:00 -- 4:00 and 7:00 -- 9:00 PM, with a Masonic service at 8:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday in the All Saints Episcopal Church, Brookland. The Rev. Gregory P. Hinton and the Rev. Carol Carlson will preside.
- Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
