Harry Hugh Hosley Obituary
Posted 06 jul 2008 by crowie208
Potter County Journal, Thursday, January 11, 1923:
Harry H. Hosley: Well-Known Photographer Of Coudersport Taken In The Prime of Life:
The news of the death of Harry Hosley, which occured at his home on South East Street, Friday afternoon, was received with much sorrow by his many frriends in this place. SInce his return from Buffalo two weeks ago, where he had submitted to an operation for removal of appendix and gall bladder, it was learned that his condition was not at all favorable, but friends and relatives hoped for the best.
Harry H. Hosley was born in Ulysses, April 11, 1884 and was the son of Charles E. and Marian Hosley.
He received his education in the high school at Ulysses, graduating from that institution.
He decided to take up photography as a profession, and took a course in that branch in a school at Effingham, Ill. Later he entered the University of Pennsylvania to study medecine but gave up that plan and returned to the artistic career.
He was married in April, 1908 to MIss Mayme Coppersmith, at Galeton.
They lived for a time in Ulysses where he had a position as assistant cashier in the bank and at Brookland and Galeton and moved to Coudersport about two years ago, where he was enjoying a good patronage. He was forging his way to the front when stricken in November. The deceased was a genial, whole-souled man, making and retaining friendships. He was an artist of much ability and a genius in many ways, being of an inventive mind, and quite an expert as an amatuer in electricity. During the war he was engaged in Y. M. C. A. work at a camp near Washington. Mr. Hosley was a member of Coudersport Consistory and of the F. & A. M. of Ulysses.
A prayer service was held at the house Sunday afternoon, and a special train accompanied by a number of Masons, bore the remains to Ulysses, where funeral services were held in the Methodist church by Rev. J. B . Harry of this place.
Besides the mother, Mrs. Marian Hosley and
- a brother, Arlington K., of Ulysses,
the deceased leaves a wife and six small children:
- Kate Marian and - John Oake, twins,
- Truxton, - June,
- Anson, and - Champ Emerson.
Their first born Velma, died in infancy.
Much sympathy is expressed for the mother and little ones who are deprived of a father's protection and guidance.
Westfield Free Press January 18, 1923:
