Dale: I also found this old photo from Coudersport. There is no date on it. My Aunt Kay English is in the front row, 3rd from the right. Apparently this function involved hats....and possibly wine. - with Tricia Kowalski, Lena Howland, Mary Hanley and 19 others.

Hi old friend, Brenda Kenealy Williams. I thought that was Tillie and Ginny but wasn't sure. Not many others look familiar, though. The woman in the 1st row left looks familiar but I can't place her. I wonder where my mom and her other sisters are?

I think perhaps it could be the Office Girls. I tagged Essie Eimer (back row, second from right) who was the Potter Enterprise Office Girl. I think it's Barbara Wallace fourth from the right in the back row with Gertrude Guenther third from the right. It's not the Presby Church but could be the Consistory?

I think that this might be the Lutheran church because the picture is Martin Luther. I ran across this picture while doing some volunteer work in high school. The pastor at the time, Pastor Danielson told me that the picture was removed from the Church because there was a rumor that the Lutherans had stopped worshiping God and had settled on Martin Luther.

Hello. Anne Ouellette Gerner, and I'm the current President of the Office Girls of Coudersport and have this picture in the scrapbook I've been working on for our club. The picture was taken at the Lutheran Church's Sunday school room. I've been told they all made their own hats. A few of these ladies are still in our club. I'm still looking for the date this picture was taken. I have several of the ladies identified and thanks to some of you, have a few more now. I'm still looking to find out who the 2nd lady in the 2nd row from left is and the 3rd from the right in the 2nd row. They are the 2 I'm missing. If anyone can tell me who they are, I'd really appreciate it. You can just fb me on my page. Thanks.

These photos can still be tagged, even with non-FB names (they just don't hyperlink). It took me a while to figure this out. I'm going to tag Miss Fredericks, since I think Thomas T Shirey is right and she's about the only one I recognize (my 3rd grade teacher too). If no tag shows, then... well, I couldn't do it.

Helen P. Snowman, 94, of Coudersport, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, March 8, 2024. Helen was born on October 20, 1929, in Coudersport, the daughter of the late Gust and Bessie (Georgas) Psychos. She married Galen A. Snowman on July 12, 1958, in Coudersport, and celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing on December 10, 2011.
Helen was the valedictorian of Coudersport High School, Class of 1947. Her professional career started at an early age working alongside her parents at the family owned confectionery, the Olympic. The Olympic was a gathering place for many young people and provided fond memories for the local community. She then worked for Production Credit in Coudersport, but left to start her family. She was a longtime Mary Kay Consultant (50+ years), and continued to be well into her 90’s. She was a dedicated member of the Christ Episcopal Church, the Eulalia Chapter #148 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Office Girls Club of Coudersport. In her earlier years, Helen enjoyed square dancing and sewing. She loved cooking and was well known for her Greek pastries during the holidays. She was very proud of her Greek heritage. Helen’s door was always open and she particularly enjoyed visiting with her friends and family on her front porch.
Helen is survived by daughters, Stephanie (Terry) Gerhart of Coudersport; Kara Snowman of Delray Beach, FL; a son, Gregory Snowman of Coudersport; sisters, Constance Psychos of Coudersport; Chrysanthia Kepler of Lindale, TX; a brother, Charles Psychos of Arlington, VA; grandchildren: Kellen (Katelyn) Gerhart, Joseph (Amy) Gerhart, Jacey Gaberseck, Colton (Wade Foster) Gerhart, Madeline Wulff, Colin Wulff, and Sophia (Austin) Cullinan, 5 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and 4 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, William Psychos, an infant sister, Beatrice Psychos, and a great grandson, Waylon Gerhart.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 N. East St., Coudersport. Remembering Helen Snowman and her front porch which was open to all for visiting. I have many fond memories as a child of spending time at the their farm, esp boating in the pond with her daughter, my good friend, Kara. Would walk from the Snowman's house to the Coudy theater almost every Sunday night to see the latest movie. Her house was a gathering place in town during my teenage years just talking, making Chef Boyardee pizzas, drinking hot tea, and playing scrabble. And also the wonderful Greek Baklava, so delicious. She will be greatly missed.

JURORS EXCUSED FOR MARCH COURT
Court Will Be Held For Other Business Than Jury Trials Must Renew Bail Bonds.
Judge Robert R. Lewis has excused all grand and trial jurors from attendance at the regular March term of court. Court will be held for the disposition of business other than jury trials. All persons on bail must be present to renew their bail.
There were so few cases requiring a jury trial that the court deemed this the best and most economical method. It will save a neat sum for the taxpayers of the county.
BARN DESTROYED BY FIRE
Yesterday's Shinglehouse Mail says: The large barn on what is known as the Lew Chamberlin farm and now owned by John Burk, on the cross road between Myrtle and the power house, was totally destroyed by fire last night, together with farm machinery, hay and grain. The fire was discovered a- bout 6:30 o clock and was beyond con trol in a few brief minutes. A pumper came from Bolivar and connection made at the Oswayo creek, and a large farm house was saved.
The herd of 12 or 15 cows and a span of horses were lead to safety, and are being housed in a barn of Rex Turner's farm near Ceres. The destroyed barn was erected between 40 and 50 years ago and was of heavy frame structure. It was 40x120 feet in size of gamble roof style, being one of the largest in this section. Burk carried insurance with the Farmers Alliance, but just how much we were unable to ascertain this morning.
TRYING TO LOCATE GAS
The following Shinglehouse men have formed a gas corporation under the laws of New York State to be known as the Crescent Producing Corporation:
Clarence Kemp, pres.;
W. H. Briggs, vice pres.;
Roy Babcock, sec;
R. L. Lunn, treas.;
Paul Kemp, Ira Press,
Fred Phoenix, H. B. Foster,
Glen Dawley, Kenneth Fenner,
E. H. Stone, Geo. Seibert
and Bert Kellogg
are the other members.
They have acquired leases in the Dundee gas field and commenced drilling a well on Waneta Lake near the village of Wayne. They are at a depth of 400 feet. Contractors E. H. Stone Ss Co., are doing the drilling. Here is hoping they strike a big gasser. Shinglehouse Mail.

DISCOVER CUB BEARS
Trappers recently discovered an old mother bear and three cubs on Young Woman's Creek. The bear family den was in a huge hollow stump with no shelter over it. Game Protector Englert has visited the spot and looked in upon the family. He has given strict orders the bears be not disturbed.
FIRE ALARM SOUNDED
A fire alarm yesterday morning at 8:30 caused the local firemen to make a quick run to the home of Oscar Snyder on West Maple Street. The boys found a chimney burning out and it was not necessary for them to go into action.
