Valerie, is your maiden name Johnson? You said your dad is Ronald Johnson (Brissee); Brissee was your mother? [I get that nomenclature with a female, but I'm a little confused with a male, although your description helps.]
She shows 'divorced' in the 1910 census, Port Allegany.
Helen, single, lived alone with her two teenage kids, Roland and Mary, in Port Allegany in the 1920 census
I've put together a Relationship Chart, myself to Helen's grandson Roland, jr. which I'm glad to send to you if you give me your email address. I've exported it as an .rtf file, which, sans structure, is (not pretty, lots of editing to try to make sense of it, but):
Relationship: JOHN CHRISTY WETZEL to Roland Henry Simons jr for Valerie Lindholm, ancestryDNA.

Hi Valerie,
I have Helen and Henry divorcing in ca 1908 in Port Allegany, McKean County, PA. I've been looking for the documentation, since more and more divorce papers seem to be showing up, with continuing digitization, but nothing apparent. Does that help?
This is the posted tree I'm referencing: Erway Family Tree - erwaym
Lena Snyder Simons was my 2nd cousin 3x removed, daughter of William M. and Mary Elizabeth Neefe Snyder. they lived in Sweden township, near Coudersport.
No, my quest for my brother's father has taken a back seat, sort of, as I'm doing some very broad-brush stuff, filling in a lot of cracks, hoping to come back to it with a more filled-in canvas.
But thank you for writing. I see that I had not incorporated your information into my tree, so I'm about to. Every little bit helps. I just posted my latest tree last night, trying to get an idea of the genealogy of Potter County and environs, LOL.
Nice to hear from you,
john

Hi John,
It's been a crazy year and I've not had much time to do my Ancestry research. But I loved your information that you shared with me. It sounds like there were couple of Henry Simon's in that area. I'm trying to find the links between the Simon's, Tucker's, Nielsen's, Potter and Rice families. I think that's where my Dad's birth father comes from.
I'm wondering if the Helena Snyder is from the Schneider's, Mottmillers, Vogelbacher's from Lucinda, PA? They immigrated in 1825 from Germany.
Still searching for the mysterious birth father. But the blood line keeps getting bigger on my Dad's birth fathers side, but no big hits yet. I did test my parents and it's never showed up on 23 and Me. I called and they said the kit's not registered. So I'm starting over with that.
Your half brother Mike, do you happen to have his birth father's name? I'd like to see how we're related.
Your friend Ricky Lindholm is probably a decendant of John Lindholm from Smythport. John was the mayor and owned the local market in town, he was my husbands father's brother.
By chance do you know if Helena Snyder divorce Henry Simon's (b. 1875)? There seems to be a big gap in the family info.
Happy New Year and I hope you're still enjoying your research.
Regards,
Valerie Lindholm

What family do you have in Coudersport?

We (five of us- I was the oldest, then Linda, then two more brothers, all in 5 years, then, 12 years later, another brother. I don't know how mom survived; dad was gone all week) were raised 'normally'. I mean, I never knew any differently until last year.
Mom died in 2001; dad still lives in the same small house in Coudersport, just turned 90, still hearlthy, still driving (cars for a dealership, not the big rigs any more.)

Ha! We played Smethport in sports, when I was in high school; they still do.
I think Ricky has a daughter who is a pretty successful actress/actor. Pictures have been posted on FB, she looks just like him (VERY Scandinavian, of course- Sweden?
We played some concerts for some of the local high schools, but emphasis on local.
I've done some research in Mayville(?), county seat of Chautauqua County, looking into other relatives, Hall on my mother's father's mother's side. Yes, I do love this!!
Simons... Henry Simons (b.1875) married Helena Snyder, my 2nd cousin 3x removed, in 1897 in Port Allegany, McKean County, PA.
There are several very interesting FB Groups in the area, posting old photos, newspaper articles, etc, in case you're interested. If you do FB, search Groups including Coudersport, Roulette, Potter/McKean... Dozens of posts, every day. I ran across a Simons recently, in fact.
I'm starting to ramble, now.
Good hunting!

My Dad is Ronald Johnson (Brissee), he did take the DNA test for Ancestry, he's still alive and full of piss and vinegar! He's a great guy and alot of fun too.
Dad was born in Olean, lived in Bradford and then grew up in Brocton and Cassadaga NY.
Were you and Mike raised by your Mom in the house. Do you happen to know who his father was and how close he and I are related?
Thanks,
Valerie

Wow, we all seem to have skeletons in the closet that we're not aware of!
I'm a Brissee from Olean and Machia, NY. The Smith side was from Machia and they were all train engineers and several were killed in train accidents in the 1800's.
As for Ricky Lindholm, he is probably a cousin to my husband Craig, who's family emigrated from Sweden in the late1800's. They settled in Smythport, PA. The town was pretty much run by the Lindholm's for about 100 years. This is near Bradford, PA
We probably are related through the Schnieder, Snyder, Smith, Brissee families. Please feel free to look at my tree, I hope it helps you too.
Thank you for the suggestion that I look at 23andMe to see what I can find out. I'm sure more matches will turn up.
Right now I think my father's birth father was W.L. Simons, but we'll see I'm still digging.
As for Music at Alfred, did you perhaps ever work with the high schools that came through for the summer music programs? That's when I was there from Brocton, Chautatuqua County, NY.

Valerie Lindholm

Hi Valerie, Lindholm- A 'Ricky Lindholm' was a year younger than me in Coudersport, PA, would have graduated from HS in '68...
Where did you grow up?
Is your dad alive? Did he take the test?
Is he Ronald johnson?
Most of the families you mention are in Potter County. I am descended from Snyder and way back, Smith, and one of my best friends was Terry Lyon, of Sweden Valley, near Coudersport.
I was born in Allegany, my mom was from there and I still have relatives in Allegany/Olean...
None of this helps you, of course; I guess I'm just trying to establish... relevance? familiarity with the area? Maybe we overlap...
So, I looked. It is not I, with whom you found overlap but my (surprise, surprise!) half brother, Mike. I discovered he had a different biological father last year and I've been on a similar quest to yours ever since.
So, finally, to your question- I started out years ago getting most of my family tested on FTDNA, mainly because I wanted to get a better handle on early WETZEL ancestors (I'm only really sure 5 generations back). I then did ancestryDNA, hoping to get more data for the same quest. Then the surprise. So I opted to expand further with 23andMe (a friend and, as it turns out, 6th cousin from coudy had a similar experience, his sister - uh, half-sister. And he found the father with 23andMe.) I've got different sets of relatives for Mike in the 3 different tests. You improve your chances with more tests. Not everybody testing does them all, so your more likely to get more 'hits' when you do.
Have I helped at all?
Mid-'70's- I was in Syracuse and Ithaca, expanding my chemistry knowledge, but I was in a blues-rock band at Alfred, like Blood,Sweat,&Tears and Chicago... sort of. :O)
Thank you for writing, and good luck.
Let me know if you find anything interesting and/or if you think I could help.

Hi I'm Valerie Lindholm and my Dad was given up for adoption in about 1942 in Olean and I've been looking for his birth father for the last couple of years. Thanks to Ancestry DNA I've been able to narrow it down to Simons, Tucker, Allen Families.
Unfortunately there's not many family members that have taken the DNA test yet. What would you recommend that might help me figure out who that missing link is?
His Mom's side of the Family is Brissee, Smith, Shoup, Lyons, Snyder, Schnieder from PA and the Olean, Machias area's.
Like you...I'm loving finding out about my Ancestry.
Regards,
Valerie Lindholm
Ps. I attend Alfred for 2 summer music training classes back in the mid-70's.
