Steve Rapchick
Steve Rapchick of Shinglehouse died at his home Tuesday (Jan. 26, 1971) after an apparent heart attack.
Born Oct. 1, 1911, in Far-mington, W. Va., he was a son of Fred and Ann Kupronski Rapchick. In 1937, he married the former Helen Elnisky, who survives.
Mr. Rapchick owned and operated the Chat and Chew Restaurant for the past eight years after retiring from operating a farm in Coneville for many years.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by
two daughters,
- Mrs. Russell (Cecelia) Lincoln of Cuba, N.Y., and
- Mrs. Donald (Diane) Benham of Houston, Texas;
- a son Theodore S. Rapchick of Charleston, S.C.;
nine grandchildren;
two sisters,
- Mrs. Ralph (Pearl) McAlpine of Bradford and
- Mrs. Fred (Lona) Wazany of Salamanca, N.Y.;
two brothers,
- Michael Rapchick of Philadelphia and
- Joseph Rapchick of Olean,
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services were conducted at Howard Funeral Home on Saturday with the Rev. Stephen Katarzynski, pastor of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, officiating.
- Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Shinglehouse.

Reed E. Young
Reed E. Young, 60, of Ulysses died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday (Jan. 27, 1971). Born June 19, 1910, in Ulysses Township, he was a son of John and Pearl Eddy Young.
Mr. Young was a self employed farmer.
Survivors include three sisters,
Mrs. Floyd (Carolyn) Baker of East Aurora, N.Y.,
Mrs. Chester (Betsy) Morley of Genesee and
Mrs. Ronald (Grace) Montgomery of Olean, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday at Koch Funeral Home, Ulysses, with the Rev. Leslie Thomas, pastor of Ulysses Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Ulysses Cemetery.
Ernest R. Bump
Ernest R. Bump, 71, of Ulysses died Wednesday (Jan. 27, 1971) in Cole Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 21, 1899 in Ulysses, he was a son of Brendo and Stella Kaple Bump. He married the former Iva Walter on June 11, 1924 at Coudersport.
Mr. Bump retired in 1964 as maintenance foreman for the N.Y. Central Railroad after 48 years of service and member of the 'Railroad Brotherhood. He was also a member of Ulysses First Baptist Church and Coudersport Consistory. He had been a member of Lewisville Lodge 556, F & AM, for 50 years and was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers,
Merle Bump of Lancaster, Pa., and
William Bump of Rimersburg, Pa., and three sisters,
Mrs. Bessie Rude of Syracuse, N.Y.,
Mrs. Geanette Deuter and
Mrs. Winona Falk, both of Corning, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
A Masonic service was held Friday by the Lewisville Lodge 556, F & AM, at Koch Funeral Home, Ulysses. The Rev. Elmer Reagle, pastor of Coudersport Free Methodist Church, officiated at the funeral service Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial was in Ulysses Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asked donations be made to TriTown Volunteer Ambulance Association of Ulysses.
Depositing Garbage On Public Land Brings Fine
An out-of-state hunter, Dix Yoste, 45, of Reisterstown, Maryland was arrested by William Neely, game protector, Austin district Twp. Dec. 5. He paid a $25 fine for deposting garbage on lands open to public hunting. all.

Mrs. Vera Nichols
Mrs. Vera Nichols of Shinglehouse died at Olean General Hospital Friday (Jan. 29, 1971) after a brief illness.
Mrs. Nichols was born at Millport, April 15, 1894, a daughter of David and Myrtle Nichols Lewis.
She had taught school in the elementary school system in Potter County for 36 years, retiring in 1962.
Mrs. Nichols was a member of United Methodist Church of Shinglehouse, the Stitch and Chatter Club of Honeoye, and the Sharon Grange.
Survivors include a son, Bruce E. Nichols of Dansville, N.Y.; two granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Claude (Jessie) Cook of Millport; two brothers, Harold Lewis of Homewood, Ill., and Eugene Lewis of Johnson City, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services were held Monday with the Rev. Alvin H. Rhodes, minister of Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Shinglehouse.
Golden R. Calhoun
Golden R. Calhoun of Coudersport died at Olean General Hospital Thursday (Jan. 28, 1971) after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Mouth of Seneca, W.Va., he was a son of Frederick and Mary Helmick Calhoun. In 1933, he married the former Marjorie Stonemetz, who survives.
Mr. Calhoun had been a Hebron Township supervisor and until his illness was employed by Bradco Supply Co. Inc., of Tonawanda.
He was a past president of the Potter County Association of Township Supervisors; a veteran of World War II, and a member of Shinglehouse Post 530, American Legion.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. John (Maxine) Rice of Shinglehouse and
Mrs. Bernard (Gayle) Zawrotny of Nahopac Park, N.Y.;
two sons, SK 1 Gary Calhoun with the Navy in Allentown and
S. Sgt. Dennis D. Calhoun, serving with the Air Force at Fort Meade, Md.;
seven grandchildren;
his mother of Oswayo;
three sister,
Mrs. Robert (Artie) Roberts of Millport,
Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Evingham of Shinglehouse and
Mrs. Delmer (Oma) VanEpps of Warren;
four brothers,
Delmer Calhoun and
Guy Calhoun, both of Erie,
Marvin Calhoun of Shinglehouse and
Warren Oswayo, and several neices and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Monday at Howard Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Wagner, minister of United Methodist Church of Oswayo, officiating. Burial was in Rathbone Cemetery at Coneville.
A graveside military service was conducted by American Legion Post 530, Shinglehouse.
