Rice, one of the oldest and best known residents of the section, passed away at his farm near Farmers Valley early Friday morning. Death was caused by a broken hip which he sustained in a fall near his home 2 weeks previous. Mr. Rice was 84 years, 10 months and 17 days old. One hundred years ago this month his father, Wm Rice, then a boy of 17 years, came from Cortland Co., NY to McKean county. George Rice, eldest son of Wm and Betsy Rice was born and spent his entire life in Keating township. In the lumbering days of McKean county, he was one of the leading operators of Northwestern Penna. Following his retirement from the lumber business, he successfully followed agricultural pursuits on his farm in Keating township. He leaves to mourn his death a wife, 5 children, 20 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and one sister. Meyer Rice of Smethport is a brother of the deceased.
