Rice, died April 22nd at her home near Coryville. She was born June 2, 1836 near Portville, on a farm where her son, Albertus Rice now lives. Mrs. Rice is survived by 5 children - Mrs. Idella Spiller of Eau Gallie, Fla., - Mrs. Lena Smith of Farmers Valley, - Mrs.Lina Randall of Coryville, - Albertus Rice of Portville, - Duane Rice of Farmers Valley. The funeral was held April 25th, at her home where she had lived for 55 years. Rev. S. A. Renicks of the Smethport Baptist church officiated. Rice of Eldred, aged 52 years, died at the Olean hospital Sunday, following an illness of three weeks. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home in Eldred at two o'clock with interment in the Stulltown Cemetary, Rev. Wm Mullander of Eldred officiated. Mrs. Rice was born at Coryville, Pa. July 10, 1874 and is survived by her husband Albert Rice, one son, Raymond of Lewis Run, a daughter Alberta of Eldred, two brothers Andrew Washburn of Coryville and Ernst Washburn of Eldred one sister Mrs Curtis Coy of Kane and two grandchildren. I do believe my Rice family originally came from Cortland Co. in NY State, and some settled in Coryville, PA. My grandparents were actually married in the Methodist Church of Ceres, NY, which sits partly in NY State and partly in PA. They lived in Port Allegany about two years where my grandfather worked in a glass factory. About 1903 or thereabouts they moved to Main Settlement, East Portville, NY, where they purchased a farm from Crandall ancestors. Grampa always had a herd of milk cows, and two frisky black horses. Rice, one of the oldest and best known residents of the section, passed away at his farm near Farmers Valley early Friday morning. Death was caused by a broken hip which he sustained in a fall near his home 2 weeks previous. Mr. Rice was 84 years, 10 months and 17 days old. One hundred years ago this month his father, Wm Rice, then a boy of 17 years, came from Cortland Co., NY to McKean county. George Rice, eldest son of Wm and Betsy Rice was born and spent his entire life in Keating township. In the lumbering days of McKean county, he was one of the leading operators of Northwestern Penna. Following his retirement from the lumber business, he successfully followed agricultural pursuits on his farm in Keating township. He leaves to mourn his death a wife, 5 children, 20 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and one sister. Meyer Rice of Smethport is a brother of the deceased.
