Widow Of Former Owner Acquires Local Hotel
F. W. Daugherty Transfers Interest In Luther Strong To Mrs. Margaret Shaneen In $55,000 Deal - Owner Inherits Small Fortune.
Sale of the Luther Strong Hotel, South Main Street was announced this week by Frank W. Daugherty.
The new owner is Mrs. Margaret Shaneen, widow of the late Sam Shaneen, one-time owner of the hotel, then known as the National.
The new owner will take possession as soon as the hotel's liquor license transfer is effected.
The purchase price was $65,000.00, it was revealed. Mrs. Shaneen will be assisted by her brother, Lowell Easton, in the operation of the business.
Heir of one-half of the estate of her husband, reportedly in excess of $200,000.00, Mrs. Shaneen acquired the estate's interest in the Luther Strong by surrendering her interest in a Ridgway hostelry to other heirs, it was reported. The deal is believed to have involved about $20,000 in cash.
Acquired three years ago by Mr. Daugherty, former owner of the Kit Kat Restaurant, South Main St., at Oak, the hotel was renamed Luther Strong in honor of an illustrious ancestor of the owner. Altered extensively by Mr. Daugherty, the hotel boasts one of the most modern coffee shops in this area.
Mr. Daugherty's plans for the future are indefinite, he said yesterday.
