My records are packed away because of the threat of being hit by one of the hurricane's ( I live in Fl ). I will try to get to them soon. I don't have much on this family because I've not been able to find alot of information on them. But you have helped to put together a missing piece about where the Wetzel's fit in the puzzle. There is a story about David and Matilda's daughter that folks still what to protect. She gave birth out of wedlock and the father is marked unknown on the birth certificate of one of the boys !! Haven't located the other two yet but will continue to search. In 1860 Tyler Co, Kidwell P.O., VA, David Roberts , 47 , Matilda - 46, Aaron - 16, William - 14, Amanda 12, Juliann - 10, John - 6 Franklin 2 . In 1870 Tyler Co, Ellsworth Twp, WV, David Roberts - 58, Matilda - 57, Amanda - 22, John - 15, Franklinton - 13 and Fred - 4 Also found Eli Wetzel 26, Julia Ann - 19 Mary 10 mo I have a letter written by David and Matilda's great-grand daughter Roxie, and she talks about her Aunt Rebecca Wetzel in this letter. Do you have anything on Amanda Roberts in your files connecting her to your Wetzel family ? Or a Charles Roberts ? A brief history of my family is as follows - - my grandmother is Jessie Roberts, - her dad is Charles Roberts, - his mother is Amanda Roberts and - her parents David and Matilda Roberts. My grandfather Charles is one of the boys born out of wedlock ! The story passed down to his children then to their children is that his father was a Wetzel. Charles has two brothers, - Homer and - Milo, both born out of wedlock. I have Milo's birth certificate, mother Amanda, father unknown, reported by Matilda Roberts.

People were very protective of this kind of information in those days ( and some still today). But I figure that these folks are all deceased and I'm not trying to hurt anyone, just find out my family history. I'm not ashamed of their past or them.
I love researching my families history. It is alot of fun and I've found alot of descendents like myself who are also searching. I've chatted with some on the phone, all over the U.S. and exchanged letters and photo's and history. The computer is the biggest means of communication with distant family. I am meeting a distant cousin of this Robert's family in two weeks in Idaho. I look forward to the day that I can go to WV and Ohio , and go to Tyler and Wetzel Co. and see the areas where the family lived.
I look forward to hearing from you and exchanging information with you. Thanks you very much for writing and sharing your family information.
Sincerely
Brenda

Subject: ROBERTS AND WETZELS
Hi John, I'm sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. The hurricane's caused me to pack away all my family files, where they have stayed until now. Packing this stuff once is more than enough for me. It should be safe now ! I want to recheck our family and make sure that we have a connection. David and Matilda Roberts have a daughter Amanda. Do you know what her history is ?? Do you know if she had children?
Due to an old letter I acquired, I know that there is also a Rebecca Wetzel in my family line , but I've not been able to determine where yet.
My Roberts family has been very difficult to trace, but I've met several descendents of my Roberts family threwout the U.S.
Very nice folks ! We exchanged information and photo's.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Brenda
