Well known and well respected proprietor of Heimel's Market in Coudersport, PA.
Son of George Nicholas Heimel and Alta Ruth Hines.
Brother of George Robert Heimel and Joseph Paul Heimel.
Married Betty Lois Holben on June 2, 1940. They had two sons. Betty died on October 4, 1996.
Played the cornet in various local and regional bands, as well as singing bass in the church choir.
Died as a result of prostate cancer.
LONGTIME COUDERSPORT BUSINESS OWNER ROY F. HEIMEL DIES AT 82
Coudersport, PA -- Roy F. Heimel, 82, of 6 N. East St. died Monday (April 5, 1999) at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born Oct. 24, 1916, in Mount Union, he was a son of George N. and Alta R. Hines Heimel.
On June 2, 1940, in Coudersport, he married Betty L. Holben, who died Oct. 4, 1996.
Mr. Heimel graduated from Altoona High School and moved to Coudersport in 1938.
On Jan 9, 1939, he opened Heimel's Market, which he owned and operated until his retirement in May 1988.
He was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the church choir for over 60 years and had served as an elder.
Mr. Heimel was a former member and past president of the Coudersport School Board. He was a member of the Coudersport Community Chorus and enjoyed playing his coronet in various community bands.
Surviving are
two sons,
- Roy F. (Marjorie) Heimel II of Coudersport and
- David E. (Mary) Heimel of Elmira, NY;
two brothers,
- G. Robert (Joan) Heimel and
- Joseph (Barbara) Heimel, both of Coudersport;
six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Thursday at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport. Funeral and committal services will be held Friday (April 9, 1999) at 11 am at the First United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Doug Orbaker, pastor, will officiate.
- Burial will be in Eulalia Cemetery, Coudersport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church, 402 N. Main St., Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the American Cancer Society, 538 E. Second St. #1, Coudersport, PA 16915.

got to love what people did back then, welcoming someone like Doc Mitchell. I am sure Coudy really needed a Vet. He took care of all of our dogs. And, confession, I may of fed their dog Penny to many snacks. But i stopped when she started wearing the sign that said don't feed me.
