"Joseph Darrin
Joseph M. Darrin, 89, of Coudersport died Sunday (Oct. 10, 2004) at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport.
Born June 26, 1915 in Port Allegany, he was the son of Edwin C. and Caroline Golden Darrin.
On Aug. 3, 1956 in Coudersport he married Bertha Roberts, who survives.
Mr. Darrin was a graduate of Coudersport High School.
He had been employed with the former Damascus Tanning Company in Coudersport.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Park United Methodist Church and was a 60-year member of the American Legion Potter Post 192 of Coudersport.
Surviving in addition to this wife are
two sisters,
- Ethel Cunningham of Carson City, NV and
- Ruth Tingley of Olean, NY;
- one brother, James Darrin of Wellsville, NY;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call today (Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Fickinger Funeral Home in Coudersport, at which time funeral and committal services will be held, with the Rev. Dennis M. Adams, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
- Burial will be in Eulalia Cemetery in Coudersport.

"Ruth R. Tingley, 88, formerly of Garden Avenue and Seneca Court, Olean, N.Y., died Tuesday (Dec. 26, 2006) at the Underwood Manor, Hinsdale, N.Y.
- Born June 19, 1918 in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Caroline Golden Darrin.
- On Jan. (April?) 10, 1939 in Port Allegany, she married William Tingley, who died May 24, 1995.
A resident of Olean since 1962, she was formerly of Coudersport.
She graduated from Coudersport High School and worked at the Market Basket, Super Duper and Richardson's Grocery stores for many years. Mrs. Tingley was a longtime volunteer at Olean General Hospital and was known for her warm smile and manner and the kindness in her heart. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and was a "people person" who enjoyed meeting and chatting with new people.
Survivors include
- a granddaughter, Laurie Holdcroft of Hinsdale, N.Y.;
two granddaughters,
- Alicia Holdcroft and Kiley (Kylie) Holdcroft, both of Hinsdale;
- a brother, James Darrin of Wellsville, N.Y.;
and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by
- a daughter, Jean Shott;
- a son, James C. Tingley;
her parents; and 13 brothers and sisters.
At Mrs. Tingley's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
