Prominent Ulysses Area Farmer s Dead At Age 91
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Charles M. Barker, 91, of Bingham, who died at his home Tuesday (August 7,1962) after a lengthy illness. He was born April 12, 1871, in Spring Mills, N.Y.
A retired farmer, Mr. Barker was married Oct. 14, 1893, to the former Miss Betty Monroe, who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Ulysses Methodist Church. Ulysses Grange, Lewisville Lodge No. 556 F.&A.M the Coudersport Consistory and the Coudersport Odd Fellows Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Alice) Crum. Ulysses, and Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Seger, Wellsville; two sons, Arling and Elymus, both of Ulysses; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Buck, Ulysses, 12 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. . Another daughter, Mrs. Harold (Theodora) Francis of Wellsville, also preceded him in death.
Friends called at the Kear Funeral Home, Ulysses, where the service was conducted by the Rev. Robert Sunderland, pastor of the Ulysses Methodist Church.

Death Comes Quickly FollQwjng Heart Attack Saturday.
A heart attack late Saturday (Aug. l, 1962), claimed the life of J. Leon Swanson of 62 Maple St., Coudersport. He was taken to the Potter County Memorial Hospital but medical science was of no avail.
While Leon was born at Wharton April 26, 1900, a son of Jacob and Mrs. Swanson, the greater part of his life was spent in Coudersport. On Jan. 20, 1923, he married Mable Hull in Erie, Pa. She survives with a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn S. Fuller, Washington, D.C; a brother, Norman C. Swanson, Rochester; a sister Mrs. Mary Miller, Rochester, and two grandchildren, Marilynn Jean Fuller and Thomas Ashmeade Fuller.
The retired government construction inspector had served on the borough council, was a .member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a life member of the Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Potter County Historical Society, Eulalia Lodge, F & AM, and Coudersport Consistory.
A Masonic service was held at 8:00 o'clock Monday evening at the Swanson home. Funeral service was held at the Lutheran Church yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. The Rev. Patrick Maier, pastor of St. Paul's Church, officiated. The final resting place was Inez Cemetery.
Death Comes To Miss Emily Lederer, Former Resident
Information has been received here of the death of Miss Emily M. Lederer at DeLand, Fla., where she had resided for a number of years. The date of death was Aug. 5. Miss Lederer had many friends here where she had resided the greater part of her life. For ten years she had suffered from arthritis.
Survivors are brothers, George E. Lederer, DeLand; and neices and nephews, Marguerite Swartwood, Orange City, Fla.; Miss Leona Lederer, DeLand, and Walter G. Lederer, Warren, Pa..
