Eugene R. "Babe" Staiger, 90, of Coudersport, died on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1920, in Coudersport, son of Henry W. and Ruth Blair Staiger.
On May 9, 1946, in Olean, N.Y., he married Dorothy Schaub, who died on April 13, 2001.
He was a lifelong resident of Coudersport and a graduate of Coudersport High School.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945.
He was employed for 14 years with the Brownhill and Kramer Hosiery Mill. In 1959, he began his employment with the Coudersport Post Office, retiring in 1982. He was a life member of American Legion Potter Post 192 and a former member of the Coudersport Golf Club. He also had been a member of area bowling teams.
He is survived by
- one son, Eugene R. (Nadine) Staiger Jr. of Mt. Jewett;
- one daughter, Mary (Alan) Vanderhoef of Saint Johns, Fla.;
three grandchildren,
- Devin (Jill) Staiger,
- Chad Vanderhoef and
- Kristen Vanderhoef and her husband Nick Dudney;
two great-grandchildren,
- Madison Staiger and
- Noah Vanderhoef;
two brothers,
- Larry D. (Paula) Staiger of Fairport, N.Y., and
- Charles V. Staiger of Sewickley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife;
- a daughter, Dorothy Dawn Staiger, who died on May 4, 1951;
- one grandson, Ian McCloskey;
two brothers,
- Henry W. Staiger, Jr., and
- Jack B. Staiger; and
two sisters,
- Rosemary J. Johnson and
- Donna Welsh.
Friends were received at the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at which time funeral and committal services were held with the Reverend Evon McJunkin, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Coudersport, officiating.
- Burial will be in Raymond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the , Potter Unit, PO Box 106, Coudersport, PA 16915, or to the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, 122 E. Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

On May 9, 1946, in Olean, N.Y., he married Dorothy Schaub, who died on April 13, 2001.
He was a lifelong resident of Coudersport and a graduate of Coudersport High School.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945.
He was employed for 14 years with the Brownhill and Kramer Hosiery Mill. In 1959, he began his employment with the Coudersport Post Office, retiring in 1982. He was a life member of American Legion Potter Post 192 and a former member of the Coudersport Golf Club. He also had been a member of area bowling teams.
He is survived by

- one daughter, Mary (Alan) Vanderhoef of Saint Johns, Fla.;
three grandchildren,
