| He emigrated from Elizabethtown, New Jersey to Potter County, and arrived at the place where he died, on the 23d of May 1811. He had two children at that time, and seven others were in due time presented to him. These nine children the youngest thirty-six years old - are all living, eight of them in this county - and these have forty-three children, thirty-seven of whom are in this county. When the deceased moved here in 1811, there were but four other families in the county. As a consequence of this, there were no roads, no mills, no stores, no school-houses, nor none of the comforts of civilization. | ||
