Just before the receipt of the fatal message, the father F. E. Neefe, received word that the son was ill, and he was arranging to go to him when the news came that he had passed away. Mr. Neefe was in his very prime and had everything to make life happy. For some time he had been engaged in the insurance work and was well known in the business world of the capital city. Leon Neefe was the elder son of F. E. Neefe and was born in Coudersport forty years ago this month. He attended school here and began his business life in Coudersport. For a time he was employed in the Deiches clothing store and he is known and highly regarded by every one here. About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Alma Sible, daughter of John Sible of Harrisburg. To them two children have been born: - Leon, Jr., aged eighteen, and - Dorothy, aged eight years. These children with the mother survive. Also the father, F. E. Neefe and one brother, - Donald. Funeral and burial services were held in Harrisburg on Monday. The father and brother and the latter's wife went to Harrisburg Saturday. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends and the people of Coudersport particularly sympathize with the father who recently lost his wife by death and whose health is delicate. He surely has been called upon to pass through deep affliction. Schmidt the show manager, announced today. - The postponement was decided on by those in charge at a meeting this morning because of the death yesterday of Leon F. Neefe, of this city, vice governor of the Kiwanis Clubs of Pennsylvania and former president of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club. - All arrangements which had been made for Monday night will be carried out on the following evening, when a luncheon meeting will precede the formal opening of the show. It is planned to have the 136 mem-ben of the Kiwanis Club dine at the Penn-Harrls at 6 o'clock. This will be followed by a short street parade at 7 o'clock with the Municipal Band at the head of the procession. Neefe, 19 years old, a prominent business man of this city, who died late yeaterday afternoon at his home, 1022 Green street, will be held Tuesday afternoon at I o'clock from the residence, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Bag-nell. pastor of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be In the Harrisburg cemetery. Mr. fteefe had been in the Insurance business here for the last seven years, with offices at 117 Chestnut street He was taken 111 with double pneumonia just a week ago while at work, and had not visited his offices since. . He was prominent in Klwants Club circles of the State and city, having recently been elected vice-governor of the State Association of Klwanla Clubs, at the convention held in Al-toona. He was president of the local Kiwanis Club last year, and was a member of the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce and of the local lodge of Elks. He was a typical, aggressive young business man of the day and of an optimistic, cheery personality which made him very popular. He was generally known among hla bual-neas and club aasoctates by the nickname of 'The Baron." Born In Couderaport. Potter County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neefe, he came to this city eighteen years ago to take a poaitlon with the Stat Highway Department, as chief clerk. if -'rX ter are some of the officials who have been given invitations to the dinner and the opening of the exhibition. No route has. been decided on yet for the parade but the details will be completed by Monday. It is anticipated that all members of the club and many of their friends will be in line. Thousands of tickets have been distributed for th I show by the exhibitors and other Kiwanlans who did not obtain display space. Some friends of the members yesterday received packets of admittance tickets and some of them thought these were to be sold. Instead it was explained that these cards were given away by some Kiwanian who will stand all the expense, including war tax. Almost 100 prizes have been listed by the committee and each evening from ten to fifteen will be given away, except on Saturday night when the Kiwanlans plan to have a record number of prjze Awards, The show will be different each night so that it will be worth while to attend more than one or two times. . SEEK TO ENJOIN THE CITY FROM TAXING ACADEMY Trustees of the Harrisburg Academy today 'filed an equity suit against City Treasurer Harry F. uvea and former Treasurer C. E. Weber, in which the court is asked to grant an Injunction restraining the defendants from collecting city taxes on the property owned and used by the Academy in the Fourteenth Ward and to declare the property exempt from taxation. The city of Harrisburg is named as a defendant also in the action, and thirty days has been given in which answers must be filed. William H. Earnest, as counsel for the trustees, filed the suit, wch is signed by Vance C. McCormick, president of the board, and Dr. Hugh Hamilton, secretary. It was said today that the action against the city will probably serve as a test case and should the court rule that the Academy property is not subject to taxation, then the county and the Harrisburg school district also will not be allowed to collect taxes which i have been levied against the Acad emy. In the equity bill It is set forth that the institution is a school or academy founded by public and private charity, endowed and maintained by private charity, and is for these reasons exempt from taxation by the city. It Is pointed out that the entire revenue derived from the school is applied to the support of the Institution and to increasing its efficiency and facilities. Neefe, a leading figure in business in this city died at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon of pneumonia after a brief illness. Mr. Neefe had been in the insurance business here for the past seven years with offices at 317 Chestnut street. He had been taken ill last Friday while at work and had not visited his office since. For the past three days he had been confined to his bed at his home, 1022 Green street. Mr. Neefe was prominent in the Kiwanis movement. He was president of the local club last year and at the recent convention in Altoona, had been elected vice governor of the State Association of Kiwanis clubs. He was also a member of the local lodge of Elks. He was born in Coudersport, Potter county thirty-nine years ago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neefe. His father and a brother, Donald survive, both residing in the Potter county town. Coming to this city eighteen years ago, he was given a post in the State Highway Department, where he served for years as chief clerk. He is survived by his wife, Alma, daughter of J.S. Sible of this city. Two children, Leon Jr., and Dorothy also survive. Mr. Neefe was a member of the Grace Methodist church of this city. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Just before the receipt of the fatal message, the father F. E. Neefe, received word that the son was ill, and he was arranging to go to him when the news came that he had passed away. Mr. Neefe was in his very prime and had everything to make life happy. For some time he had been engaged in the insurance work and was well known in the business world of the capital city. Leon Neefe was the elder son of F. E. Neefe and was born in Coudersport forty years ago this month. He attended school here and began his business life in Coudersport. For a time he was employed in the Deiches clothing store and he is known and highly regarded by every one here. About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Alma Sible, daughter of John Sible of Harrisburg. To them two children have been born: - Leon, Jr., aged eighteen, and - Dorothy, aged eight years. These children with the mother survive. Also the father, F. E. Neefe and one brother, - Donald. Funeral and burial services were held in Harrisburg on Monday. The father and brother and the latter's wife went to Harrisburg Saturday. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends and the people of Coudersport particularly sympathize with the father who recently lost his wife by death and whose health is delicate. He surely has been called upon to pass through deep affliction. Leon Neefe Dies at His Home' in Harrisburg After Brief Illness From Pneumonia
Friday evening the news reached Coudersport that Leon Neefe had passed away at his home in Harrisburg. Just before the receipt of the fatal message, the father F. E. Neefe, received word that the son was ill, and he was arranging to go to him when the news came that he had passed away.
Mr. Neefe was in his very prime and had everything to make life happy. For some time he had been engaged in the insurance work and was well known in the business world of the capital city.
Leon Neefe was the elder son of F. E. Neefe and was born in Coudersport forty years ago this month. He attended school here and began his business life in Coudersport. For a time he was employed in the Deiches clothing store and he is known and highly regarded by every one here.
About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Alma Sible, daughter of John Sible of Harrisburg. To them two children have been born:
- Leon, Jr., aged eighteen, and
- Dorothy, aged eight years.
These children with the mother survive.
Also the father, F. E. Neefe and one brother,
- Donald.
Funeral and burial services were held in Harrisburg on Monday. The father and brother and the latter's wife went to Harrisburg Saturday.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends and the people of Coudersport particularly sympathize with the father who recently lost his wife by death and whose health is delicate. He surely has been called upon to pass through deep affliction.

Opening of Kiwanis Show Is Postponed Until Tuesday Night
Opening night for ' the Kiwanis Business Show will be next Tuesday evening instead of Monday Charles L. Schmidt the show manager, announced today.
- The postponement was decided on by those in charge at a meeting this morning because of the death yesterday of Leon F. Neefe, of this city, vice governor of the Kiwanis Clubs of Pennsylvania and former president of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club. -
All arrangements which had been made for Monday night will be carried out on the following evening, when a luncheon meeting will precede the formal opening of the show. It is planned to have the 136 mem-ben of the Kiwanis Club dine at the Penn-Harrls at 6 o'clock. This will be followed by a short street parade at 7 o'clock with the Municipal Band at the head of the procession. No route has. been decided on yet for the parade but the details will be completed by Monday. It is anticipated that all members of the club and many of their friends will be in line. Thousands of tickets have been distributed for th I show by the exhibitors and other Kiwanlans who did not obtain display space. Some friends of the members yesterday received packets of admittance tickets and some of them thought these were to be sold. Instead it was explained that these cards were given away by some Kiwanian who will stand all the expense, including war tax. Almost 100 prizes have been listed by the committee and each evening from ten to fifteen will be given away, except on Saturday night when the Kiwanlans plan to have a record number of prjze Awards, The show will be different each night so that it will be worth while to attend more than one or two times. . SEEK TO ENJOIN THE CITY FROM TAXING ACADEMY Trustees of the Harrisburg Academy today 'filed an equity suit against City Treasurer Harry F. uvea and former Treasurer C. E. Weber, in which the court is asked to grant an Injunction restraining the defendants from collecting city taxes on the property owned and used by the Academy in the Fourteenth Ward and to declare the property exempt from taxation. The city of Harrisburg is named as a defendant also in the action, and thirty days has been given in which answers must be filed. William H. Earnest, as counsel for the trustees, filed the suit, wch is signed by Vance C. McCormick, president of the board, and Dr. Hugh Hamilton, secretary. It was said today that the action against the city will probably serve as a test case and should the court rule that the Academy property is not subject to taxation, then the county and the Harrisburg school district also will not be allowed to collect taxes which i have been levied against the Acad emy. In the equity bill It is set forth that the institution is a school or academy founded by public and private charity, endowed and maintained by private charity, and is for these reasons exempt from taxation by the city. It Is pointed out that the entire revenue derived from the school is applied to the support of the Institution and to increasing its efficiency and facilities. L.F. Neefe, Active In State Kiwanis Clubs, Dies Here
Leading Business Man of City Succumbs to Pneumonia After Week's Illness - Former President of Local Club
Leon F. Neefe, a leading figure in business in this city died at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon of pneumonia after a brief illness. Mr. Neefe had been in the insurance business here for the past seven years with offices at 317 Chestnut street.
He had been taken ill last Friday while at work and had not visited his office since. For the past three days he had been confined to his bed at his home, 1022 Green street.
Mr. Neefe was prominent in the Kiwanis movement. He was president of the local club last year and at the recent convention in Altoona, had been elected vice governor of the State Association of Kiwanis clubs. He was also a member of the local lodge of Elks.
He was born in Coudersport, Potter county thirty-nine years ago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neefe. His father and a brother, Donald survive, both residing in the Potter county town. Coming to this city eighteen years ago, he was given a post in the State Highway Department, where he served for years as chief clerk.
He is survived by his wife, Alma, daughter of J.S. Sible of this city. Two children, Leon Jr., and Dorothy also survive. Mr. Neefe was a member of the Grace Methodist church of this city. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Rattlers Kill Two Women
Awful Encounter With the Deadly Reptiles on Huckleberry Mountain
By Exclusive Wires to The Patriot
Coudersport, Aug. 21 – The details of a horrible encounter with rattlesnakes, in which two women were killed by the venomous reptiles, has been brought here by a commercial traveler from Gold, a village of Potter county. Several days ago Mrs. Jacob Nevins, Mrs. Sara Harmon and three or four other women and their husbands went up on the mountains to pick huckleberries. Mrs. Harmon sat down to pluck the fruit by the side of a rock. A large rattler, unseen by her, which lay on the rock, struck the woman on the jugular vein, causing a considerable rupture. She screamed, but bled to death in half an hour.
While assisting Mrs. Harmon, Mrs. Nevins was bitten twice on the leg and once on the hand by another rattlesnake and died five hours afterward. The men in the party came to the rescue from nearby, gave the women whisky, but to no purpose. They then killed seven huge rattlesnakes within a few yards of where the fated women were bitten and the whole party left the mountain in terror.

Leon Neefe Dies at His Home' in Harrisburg After Brief Illness From Pneumonia
Friday evening the news reached Coudersport that Leon Neefe had passed away at his home in Harrisburg. Just before the receipt of the fatal message, the father F. E. Neefe, received word that the son was ill, and he was arranging to go to him when the news came that he had passed away.
Mr. Neefe was in his very prime and had everything to make life happy. For some time he had been engaged in the insurance work and was well known in the business world of the capital city.
Leon Neefe was the elder son of F. E. Neefe and was born in Coudersport forty years ago this month. He attended school here and began his business life in Coudersport. For a time he was employed in the Deiches clothing store and he is known and highly regarded by every one here.
About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Alma Sible, daughter of John Sible of Harrisburg. To them two children have been born:
- Leon, Jr., aged eighteen, and
- Dorothy, aged eight years.
These children with the mother survive.
Also the father, F. E. Neefe and one brother,
- Donald.
Funeral and burial services were held in Harrisburg on Monday. The father and brother and the latter's wife went to Harrisburg Saturday.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends and the people of Coudersport particularly sympathize with the father who recently lost his wife by death and whose health is delicate. He surely has been called upon to pass through deep affliction.

Opening of Kiwanis Show Is Postponed Until Tuesday Night
Opening night for ' the Kiwanis Business Show will be next Tuesday evening instead of Monday Charles L. Schmidt the show manager, announced today.
- The postponement was decided on by those in charge at a meeting this morning because of the death yesterday of Leon F. Neefe, of this city, vice governor of the Kiwanis Clubs of Pennsylvania and former president of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club. -
All arrangements which had been made for Monday night will be carried out on the following evening, when a luncheon meeting will precede the formal opening of the show. It is planned to have the 136 mem-ben of the Kiwanis Club dine at the Penn-Harrls at 6 o'clock. This will be followed by a short street parade at 7 o'clock with the Municipal Band at the head of the procession. The funeral services for Leon F. Neefe, 39 years old, a prominent business man of this city, who died late yeaterday afternoon at his home, 1022 Green street, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Bagnell. pastor of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating.
- Burial will be In the Harrisburg cemetery.
Mr. Neefe had been in the Insurance business here for the last seven years, with offices at 117 Chestnut street. He was taken ill with double pneumonia just a week ago while at work, and had not visited his offices since.
He was prominent in Kiwanis Club circles of the State and city, having recently been elected vice-governor of the State Association of Kiwanis Clubs, at the convention held in Altoona. He was president of the local Kiwanis Club last year, and was a member of the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce and of the local lodge of Elks. He was a typical, aggressive young business man of the day and of an optimistic, cheery personality which made him very popular. He was generally known among his business and club aasoctates by the nickname of "The Baron."
Born in Coudersport, Potter County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neefe, he came to this city eighteen years ago to take a position with the State Highway Department, as chief clerk...

Leon Neefe Dies at His Home' in Harrisburg After Brief Illness From Pneumonia
Friday evening the news reached Coudersport that Leon Neefe had passed away at his home in Harrisburg. Just before the receipt of the fatal message, the father F. E. Neefe, received word that the son was ill, and he was arranging to go to him when the news came that he had passed away.
Mr. Neefe was in his very prime and had everything to make life happy. For some time he had been engaged in the insurance work and was well known in the business world of the capital city.
Leon Neefe was the elder son of F. E. Neefe and was born in Coudersport forty years ago this month. He attended school here and began his business life in Coudersport. For a time he was employed in the Deiches clothing store and he is known and highly regarded by every one here.
About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Alma Sible, daughter of John Sible of Harrisburg. To them two children have been born:
- Leon, Jr., aged eighteen, and
- Dorothy, aged eight years.
These children with the mother survive.
Also the father, F. E. Neefe and one brother,
- Donald.
Funeral and burial services were held in Harrisburg on Monday. The father and brother and the latter's wife went to Harrisburg Saturday.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends and the people of Coudersport particularly sympathize with the father who recently lost his wife by death and whose health is delicate. He surely has been called upon to pass through deep affliction.

Opening of Kiwanis Show Is Postponed Until Tuesday Night
Opening night for ' the Kiwanis Business Show will be next Tuesday evening instead of Monday Charles L. Schmidt the show manager, announced today.
- The postponement was decided on by those in charge at a meeting this morning because of the death yesterday of Leon F. Neefe, of this city, vice governor of the Kiwanis Clubs of Pennsylvania and former president of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club. -
All arrangements which had been made for Monday night will be carried out on the following evening, when a luncheon meeting will precede the formal opening of the show. It is planned to have the 136 mem-ben of the Kiwanis Club dine at the Penn-Harrls at 6 o'clock. This will be followed by a short street parade at 7 o'clock with the Municipal Band at the head of the procession. After the parade the members will go to the Chestnut Street Auditorium so that the show., can be opened promptly at 7.30 o'clock. Governor Sproul, Lieutenant Governor Beldleman and Mayor Hover-

FUNERAL NEXT TUESDAY FOR LEON F. NEEFE
The funeral services for Leon F. Neefe, 39 years old, a prominent business man of this city, who died late yeaterday afternoon at his home, 1022 Green street, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Bagnell. pastor of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating.
- Burial will be In the Harrisburg cemetery.
Mr. Neefe had been in the Insurance business here for the last seven years, with offices at 117 Chestnut street. He was taken ill with double pneumonia just a week ago while at work, and had not visited his offices since.
He was prominent in Kiwanis Club circles of the State and city, having recently been elected vice-governor of the State Association of Kiwanis Clubs, at the convention held in Altoona. He was president of the local Kiwanis Club last year, and was a member of the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce and of the local lodge of Elks. He was a typical, aggressive young business man of the day and of an optimistic, cheery personality which made him very popular. He was generally known among his business and club aasoctates by the nickname of "The Baron."
Born in Coudersport, Potter County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neefe, he came to this city eighteen years ago to take a position with the State Highway Department, as chief clerk...

His father and a brother, Donald, of Coudersport also survive. During his residence here he was an active member of the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church.
