He was at appomattox at the surrender. July 4, 1877, he married Mary Kelly, daughter of Andrew and Lucinda (Lyman) Kelly. Their home has been principally on the William Lyon homestead at Sweden, Pa. They have named it "The Maples." With its maple groves and fine rows of large maples, and commodious , well built house it is as pretty a place as any in the township.
