?Class of '65 Grade 1, 1953-1954
Miss Audrey Neuhard homeroom
After searching for months and months, Janet (Russell) Chalfant finally found her Grade 1 class photo. Her mother Mayfred (Hackett) Russell wrote the identifications on the back. The IDs did not include a last name for No. 2. The handwriting for the last name of No. 6 was a little hard to read, but Janet and I figured that out.
Corrections, additional information and notes are welcome.
We're still missing some elementary school class photos. If you find any, please send them to me.
We now have two of our three Grade 1 class photos -- Angeline Edwards and Audrey Neuhard. The third teacher was Rose Schwer.
* Bonus classmates -- they were in classes with us, but, for a variety of reasons, they did not graduate with us. They are members of our Class of '65.

?For No. 2, my best guess is Ronald Lindahl. He was in our elementary school. The following information came from an article in The Potter Enterprise. In March 1954, Ronnie attended a party to celebrate the sixth birthday of Duane Ulkins. Others attending were Jean Walaski, Rosalie Walaski, David Secor, Kenneth Carey, Tommy Schroeder, Carol Pelchy and Duane's brothers Dennis and Dale. Ronnie's family lived on Vine Street.
?No. 6 is Raymond Tavery Jr., born in Texas about January 1948, a son of Raymond and Mary Francis (Straw) Tavery. Mary is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Straw. The Tavery family lived mostly in Texas, but in May 1953 they were living on Ayers Hill. In June 1954 they were living back in Texas. Bert was a Potter County Farm Agent. (News items in The Potter Enterprise.)
?In an email message, Janet wrote: "There are only 6 in this class who graduated from CHS in 1965. That’s a very low percentage. I remember Mom telling me that Miss Neuhard had a speech problem and a lot of parents didn’t want their children in her class. They were concerned that it would affect how the children learned to read. Of course as a first grader I never noticed."
Photo attached (corrected and enhanced).

We called her Doc. She visited us often when she could. I believe she taught overseas at one point. She was a super nice lady.
