Velma J. Carpenter, 83, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at home, with her family by her side. Born March 30, 1931, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Grace Chapman Shaw. On January 5, 1952 she married Gerald Carpenter who preceded her in death January 13, 2006. Velma worked for many years as a housekeeper for the Potato City Country Inn and also at the Irish Potato Farm. She was also employed by Potter County. Velma was a member of the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church. Velma's Life Celebration began with a visitation at the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home Ltd, "A Life Celebration Home", 210 North East St., Coudersport, Pa., Friday, February 6, 2015 from 4-6 and Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 12-2pm . Funeral service was held Saturday at 2pm at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Shatto officiating. - Burial was at the families convenience in Reed Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, 1450 E. Second St., Coudersport, Pa. 16915 or the Patterson Cancer Center, 1001 E. Second St., Coudersport, Pa. 16915. Velma is survived by her children; - Gary E. (Janet L.) Carpenter, Urbana, Ohio, - Charles W. "Grady" (Christine Fleeger) Carpenter, Coudersport, Pa. and - Christine M. (Gregg A.) Stiles, Blairsville, Pa., grandchildren; - Cory Carpenter, - David (Samantha) Carpenter, and - Emily Stiles. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
